Sunday Night Football Value Plays
D’Andre Swift ($7,000)
I debated if this was considered cheating, but a starting running back at just $7,000 is an immense value.
D’Andre Swift has been an odd case study since he burst onto the scene at the University of Georgia. His athleticism has never been a concern, as his solid speed and lightning-fast agility jumped off the screen, even while playing in the SEC. Swift has never mastered hitting the proper hole or setting up his blocks beyond the first level.
Despite his inconsistency on the ground, I am eyeing the 25-year-old more as a pass catcher out of the backfield. Caleb Williams’ ($8,800) disastrous debut shouldn’t be a cause for concern, but rather a sign that the face of the franchise needs a mentality approach. He routinely seemed hesitant to throw the ball to his checkdowns and decided to hold onto the ball and try to make something happen. Part of making Williams’ life easier would be to get Swift more involved both in the screen game and underneath.
Ka’imi Fairbairn ($4,800)
Yes, we’re getting a little weird.
Even for a football savant like me, deciphering which specific Texans‘ offensive weapon will go off any given week is virtually impossible. Rather than do mental gymnastics, I ignored this problem altogether.
Ka’imi Fairbairn has grown beyond one of the coolest names in sports into an elite NFL leg. The Hawaii native is coming off making three kicks over 50 yards, while knocking through a pair of extra points. In the last three seasons, he has a dazzling 95% made field goal percentage.
If Houston continues to punch it in against a stingy Chicago defense, Fairbairn could continue his hot streak and be a legitimate DFS weapon.
Gerald Everett ($2,400)
My analyzing kryptonite might be snap counts, but I’m willing to go down with the ship.
Cole Kmet ($5,000) has flashed signs of brilliance, but has had a largely underwhelming tenure in the windy city thanks to horrific quarterback play and an emphasis on pounding the rock. In a desperate attempt to jump-start their offense, the Bears’ coaching staff benched the Notre Dame product for veteran tight end Gerald Everett.
Offensive coordinator Shane Waldron is working with Everett for the third time and seems to value him more as a pass catcher. Despite being held to just one catch, Everett was on the field for 61% of the team’s snaps. This trend might not continue, but the volume alone is too tempting to ignore.
He’s always struggled to find the red zone, but being a massive target for a rookie quarterback can bode well in his favor.
