We had an old-fashioned pitching duel on Wednesday in Boston. Both starters allowed only one earned run and each bullpen gave up only one run as well. And that’s how it remained after nine innings.
Dean Kremer ($6,500; 23.55 FPTS) went seven innings for Baltimore, striking out seven, walking two and allowing that one earned run on five hits. It was only the third time Kremer has gone seven innings in a start this season and the seventh time he’s allowed one or fewer runs.
His counterpart, Nick Pivetta ($8,400; 26.5 FPTS), was just as good. He went six innings, struck out nine, walked one and allowed only that one earned run on four hits. The lone blemish was a solo home run allowed to Emmanuel Rivera ($2,600; 19 FPTS) in the third inning. Rivera sent a 2-1 pitch over the Green Monster.
Boston scored on a throwing error in the bottom of the third then went ahead on a RBI single by Ceddanne Rafaela ($3,300; 5 FPTS) in the fourth inning.
In the top of the eighth, though, Anthony Santander ($5,800; 16 FPTS) hit a solo shot into the right field seats on the first pitch he saw to tie it up and sent the game to extras.
Rivera drove in another with a single in the top of the 10th, but Tyler O’Neill ($5,400; 20 FPTS) walked it off with a three-run home run in the bottom of the inning.
In the $150K Relay Throw tournament, O’Neill was rostered on only 3.9% of teams. Rivera was on 3.8% and Santander was rostered by 6.4%. Kremer was on 5.8% while Pivetta was on 5.7% of teams.
