The Miami Dolphins reached an agreement with Mike McDaniel on Friday which will keep the coach in Magic City through the 2028 season, according to ESPN’s Jeff Darlington.
McDaniel has been the Dolphins’ head coach since the start of 2022 and has gone 20-14 in his two seasons at the helm. He led the team to the playoffs in each of the last two seasons but lost in the AFC Wild Card round.
Last year, McDaniel’s Dolphins had the top-ranked offense in the NFL behind a speed-heavy attack led by Tyreek Hill and breakout rookie running back De’Von Achane. McDaniel has been experimenting with more ways to get Achane involved as a receiving option this offseason, which could make him an even bigger fantasy star in year two.
With this extension, the Dolphins show they’re committed to McDaniel long-term and see him as bringing them to the next level. The one thing missing from his resume to this point has been postseason success, but this deal indicates ownership has confidence he can take that next step.
On DraftKings Sportsbook, the Dolphins have an over/under of 9.5 wins, with the action slightly heavier on the over at -135. They are -155 to make the playoffs for a third straight year and +225 to lose in the Wild Card round. If you think McDaniel can get them to the Divisional Round but no further, those odds are longer at +400, while picking them to lose in the AFC Championship is at +850.
