On August 20, Playground Productions announced the official relaunch of the iconic video game franchise “Backyard Sports”.
Video game icon Pablo Sanchez isn’t just coming back, though. He’s leading the charge into new territory, as “Backyard Sports” is set to expand into film, television, and merchandise along with new versions of the classic games.
“’Backyard Sports’ is more than just a game; it’s a cherished part of childhood for millions of people… I look at media as the largest classroom in the world. As such, our goal is to produce meaningful content that not only entertains but also educates and inspires,” said Playground Productions founder and CEO — and Backyard Sports creator — Lindsay Barnett in an official statement.
Mike Golic Sr. and Mike Golic Jr. of GoJo and Golic reacted to the announcement on Wednesday morning.
The first official “Backyard Sports” installment launched in 1997, as “Backyard Baseball” took the video game industry by storm, featuring the G.O.A.T himself Pablo Sanchez along with other classic characters like Pete Wheeler and Stephanie Morgan. Since then, the franchise has dipped into a variety of other sports, with the latest of 38 games releasing in 2015.
