It’s been nearly 30 years since we last followed the legendary lifestyle of Happy Gilmore –– one of, if not the most popular characters that Adam Sandler has played throughout his acting career. While there still is no release date for the long-awaited sequel, Happy Gilmore 2, Sandler revealed on Tuesday’s The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon that production is expected to begin in a few weeks and… Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is expected to make an appearance!?
Sandler referred to Kelce as “A big, handsome guy. Funny and cool as hell. He’s a stud, and he’s so funny”, so it’s safe to say that he’s excited to get to work with the three-time Super Bowl champion.
But how did this happen exactly? Kelce might have initiated it himself.
Back in May when the sequel was originally announced, Kelce immediately brought up the opportunity to work with the “Sandman” on the New Heights podcast with his brother and long-time Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman, Jason. Kelce implored the idea of doing anything to be around such a legend and it looks like his dreams will come true when production begins in a few weeks. It’s unknown whether he will be “just an extra” or not but I’d be willing to bet that he will receive ample opportunity to take part in a legendary scene. Who knows? Maybe he’ll be the one throwing hands with Happy Gilmore like Bob Barker did in the original film.
Don’t worry! We, the everyday people, have the opportunity to be in Happy Gilmore 2, too. The film’s first open casting call was held in Morristown, NJ and thousands of fans showed up. Over 1,500 people were reportedly let upstairs to take part.
