Aaron Rai ($8,800; 133 FPTS) has been a professional golfer since 2012. He’s played on the European Tour, Asian Tour, Challenge Tour and Korn Ferry Tour, racking up six wins. He’s been on the PGA Tour since 2021 and played in 77 PGA Tour events, missing the cut in 24 events and notching a Top-10 finish eight times. Three of those came in the last four tournaments, finishing 4th, 7th and 2nd.
Like lava trying to escape the Earth’s crust, Rai has been building up for an explosion. The 75th-placed finish at the British Open sprinkled some reality onto Mt. Rai, but that didn’t get 26.6% of participants in the $800K Summer Sand Trap tournament off his scent, and they were rewarded with a victory at the Wyndham Championship, his first PGA Tour win.
After notching a bogey in both of the first two rounds and two on Saturday, Rai produced an unblemished round on Sunday. He drained birdies on Holes 3, 4, 5 and 6 for the bonus. On the back nine, he birdied Hole 12 then the final hole to finish six-under for the day, 18-under for the tournament and two strokes better than Max Greyserman ($7,600; 132.5 FPTS).
