The USA women’s basketball team claimed their eighth straight gold medal at the Olympics on Sunday, defeating France 67-66 in a game that was competitive to the final buzzer. After two clutch-made free throws by Marine Johannes with 3.5 seconds left, USA led by three points and in the final possession for France, Gabby Williams almost forced overtime, as she banked in a deep two-pointer as time expired, which was nearly a three-pointer with her toes just on the line. Heading into this gold medal game, the United States was a massive -1100 ML favorite over France on the DraftKings Sportsbook, while France carried +700 ML odds as the underdog.

In this nail-biting win for United Staes, A’ja Wilson was outstanding, posting a double-double of 21 points and 13 rebounds, both of which led her team. Furthermore, Wilson was a menace on the defensive end, blocking four shots and tallying a steal. On top of Wilson’s heroics, Kelsey Plum and Kahleah Copper both added 12 points for the United States, and Napheesa Collier finished with seven points, 11 rebounds and a steal.

Including that near game-tying shot as the buzzer sounded, Williams led France with 19 points, seven rebounds and three steals in the loss. Marieme Badiane also posted eight points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals, while Valeriane Ayayi and Marine Johannes both scored nine points.
