Jim Harbaugh is long gone from Ann Arbor, but we’re still feeling the reverberations of the Michigan sign-stealing scandal which shot Connor Stalions into our collective consciousness.
Now the latest is a report from ESPN’s Dan Murphy and Pete Thamel about a leaked draft of the notice of allegations sent to Michigan.
Dan notes that a lot of Michigan fans were mad at him for reading a tweet saying how great it was to look at Harbaugh through the prism of the Ultimate Michigan Man who couldn’t beat Ohio State, refused to play them in the pandemic, oversees a ton of cheating only to then jump ship into the waiting arms of Justin Herbert in Los Angeles. So given that, as well as everything else that has happened, what is Harbaugh’s attitude about the whole scandal at this point?
Well, Jim Harbaugh would like to take this opportunity to apologize … TO ABSOLUTELY NOBODY!!!
What does The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz‘s resident college football expert Lucy Rohden have to say about Harbaugh declaring himself innocent of all charges once again?
“I respect it.”
She brings up someone who shared the meme of Bane saying in the Dark Knight Rises that they need someone to stay with the wreckage (although Jessica warns Lucy to stay out of her Bane lane) — in this instance, that person is Sherrone Moore. Lucy says what are they gonna do? Harbaugh isn’t coaching in college football anymore, he might as well proclaim innocence. And the group, save Dan, don’t seem to think it’s likely that the NFL will punish Harbaugh the way it did Jim Tressel.
Dan says he’s not sure we’ve had an NFL coach who’s been this publicly goofy in some time all while exuding the confidence of someone who just ran college football and thinks he might be better than most anyone else in the league, even if he might not be the best coach in his own family. Lucy thinks she will enjoy now, not the least because now her favorite team isn’t scheduled to play him every year anymore. His personality is so unique and interesting, she says, and similar to Dan Campbell he’s intense and weird, and we all know how fun the Dan Campbell era has been in Detroit. So Lucy is excited to see Jim Harbaugh back in the NFL being his weirdo, goofy self.
