The NASCAR season concludes with the Cup Series Championship Race in the desert at Phoenix Raceway. Set your DraftKings fantasy NASCAR lineups here: NAS $125K Season Finale [$25K to 1st] (Cup)
1. Ryan Blaney ($11,200) — Kevin Harvick was the King of the Desert. He dominated Phoenix for seasons. Blaney is the Desert Fox. He’s finished fifth or better in the last six races at the short, flat track — three runner-up finishes in the last four. Last fall’s second-place finish won Blaney the Championship.
2. Joey Logano ($10,800) — There have been two championship races at Phoenix in the Gen-7 car. Team Penske won the Cup Series championship in both races. Logano won the fall 2022 race and scored 110 fantasy points. His teammate, Ryan Blaney, scored 95 DKFP.
3. Ross Chastain ($9.300) — For the first time in a long time the Cup Series Championship Race was won by a non-playoff driver in 2023. Chastain was the perfect candidate to play spoiler. He has finished sixth or better in four of the last five Phoenix races — all in the Gen-7 car.
4. Tyler Reddick ($10,500) — Toyota has one car in the championship. It’s not the one they wanted. Joe Gibbs Racing didn’t make the cut. Reddick will represent the manufacturer and 23XI Racing — the team locked in a legal battle with NASCAR. This race means a lot. It’s all hands on deck and all resources to Reddick.
5. William Byron ($11,000) — And then there was one. Byron is Hendrick Motorsports’ lone representative in the Cup Series Championship Race at Phoenix. All of the HMS resources will be funneled to the No. 24 Chevy. That helps, but Byron is still at a disadvantage. Logano and Reddick have been preparing for Phoenix for weeks.
6. Martin Truex Jr ($9,000) — Can Truex be a spoiler? Chastain did it last season. JGR doesn’t have a dog in the fight and this is his last race. Truex scored 74 DKFP in the spring race.
7. Denny Hamlin ($9,800) — Does this race matter from the driver’s perspective? Does Hamlin care? He’s not competing for the championship. His team — 23XI Racing — is. Will he focus on his team? He’s also juggling a lawsuit with NASCAR. Where’s his 7. mental focus? It’s not likely on turning competitive laps at Phoenix.
8. Kyle Larson ($10,000) — This is the rare occasion where the greatest driver on the planet is not an obvious DFS target at DraftKings. That narrative could lower his ownership. The facts rather than the story are different. He’s the greatest because he’s a pure racer. He runs dirt races in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the week. Never bet against Yung Money.
9. Chase Briscoe ($8,400) — This is the end of Stewart-Haas Racing. The organization does not want to go out with a whimper. Briscoe can go out with a bang. He can wheel the Gen-7 car at short tracks. He has a win and four top 10s at Phoenix in this car.
10 Michael McDowell ($6,400) — Phoenix is McDowell’s home track. He was a karting instructor at Bondurant Racing School in Chandler, Arizona. McDowell has finished eighth, ninth and 13th in the last three Phoenix races. His previous races weren’t great but his equipment was not great.
11. Chris Buescher ($8,200) — RFK Racing has been quiet during the playoffs. They could wake up for the finale. Brad Keselowski ($8,600) used strategy and finished fourth in the spring race in the desert. Buescher was the runner-up and finished fifth at Phoenix last fall.
12. Ty Gibbs ($8.700) — Joe Gibbs Racing could go YOLO at Phoenix. They’re not racing for a championship. They’re racing to race. They can gamble. Why not push all-in on Ty Gibbs and get him his first win? Gibbs finished third in the spring race.
13. Christopher Bell ($10,300) — Is Bell the next Hamlin? A JGR Toyota driver that dominates the Cup Series and piles up the trophies but never wins the big trophy? Bell won the spring race and scored 94 DKFP at Phoenix.
14. Chase Elliott ($9,500) — There’s a wide-held belief that the Championship Four are allowed to get away with stuff. NASCAR wants the championship race to be a battle between the contenders. Are their cars really suped up? If so, then it’s hard to spend up on Elliott or other top-tier drivers that were eliminated from the playoffs.
15. Erik Jones ($6,100) — The Legacy Motorsports Club Toyotas didn’t have a great 2024 season. The team took a step backward but Phoenix is an opportunity. Jones has a top-25 finish in six of the last seven Phoenix races. That’s not great, but it could work at his price.
