2026 U.S. Midterm Elections FAQ
Who currently holds the Ohio governor seat?
The seat is currently held by Republican Gov. Mike DeWine, who has led Ohio since January 2019 and won a second term in 2022. Ohio bars a governor from serving more than two consecutive terms, so DeWine is not on the ballot in 2026, setting up an open contest between Acton and Ramaswamy. DeWine endorsed Ramaswamy in January 2026.
How long is the term for the Ohio governor?
The winner of the race between Democrat Amy Acton and Republican Vivek Ramaswamy will serve a four-year term beginning in January 2027.
