Two players were eliminated last week on Survivor 51, capped off by Kilby’s defiant stand on Dina. After another action-packed episode, what does Jeff Probst have in store for viewers on Wednesday night? With the merge mere days away, players will be more desperate than ever to avoid going home.
What’s on tap for our 14 remaining castaways? Below, we’ll recap all the twists and turns from Wednesday’s sixth episode, titled “I Love Crying”, along with revealing who was voted out.
Survivor 51 Episode 6 Recap
Target on Kilby
Lewis and Kilby have survived, but not without some awkwardness on Dina. The three former Savu’s “cowered down” according to Lewis, unwilling to go to rocks during last week’s tribal council. That’s created an uncomfortable vibe coming back from a dramatic vote out.
Eric was certainly blindsided, shocked that his new buddy Kilby went rogue. He doesn’t understand the move from his “Lover Boys” alliance member, either. Kilby explains himself back at camp, stating that he didn’t want to be percieved as a traitor by his former tribe mates. Eric isn’t buying it, calling the big move a “betrayal” and telling Kilby that he’s prioritizing Lewis above anyone else. Still, Kilby is optimistic that he can rebuild a connection between the two.
Mike’s Big Move?
Mike is still trying to wriggle his way into power on Toka. He’s aware that he’s on the outs within the tribe, a potentially precarious position. As a result, he’s trying to link up with former Savu member Kristin, another outcast on paper.
Brady has his eyes out on Mike, viewing him as someone who has no allies that’s frequently idol hunting. Mike is getting frustrated with the wrestler as well, due in part to Brady’s constant pestering over what everyone else on Toka is discussing. “I’ve had enough of being bossed around,” Mike states, eyeing a potential flip with new ally Kristin.
Still, how does he make a big move appealing to Kristin? He tells her that he’ll vote his way on any future vote if she joins him on the last tribal before the merge. Kristin doesn’t view Mike as a power player, without much to offer. Regardless, she remains diplomatic; it’s not smart to burn a bridge with anyone on Survivor.
Scheming Ex-Savu’s
Now that Linnea is gone, Sharonda is the new de facto member of the old Savu’s on Dina. Along with Cristian and Eric, the three still hold the majority on this tribe. Eric is out for blood, stating that the two outsiders can’t be trusted. He’s pitching a potential power trio going into the merge.
Cristian isn’t on the same page. Seeing all of his former tribe mates go home has put things into perspective; you can’t just rely on old alliances. A relationship with Lewis and Kilby could reap greater rewards going forward as opposed to Savu loyalty. As an added bonus, flipping at this point in the game offers more chaotic fun
Summit Meet-Up
This week’s tree mail brings another intriguing twist. Tribes need to choose one player as their representative for a Summit. It’s Sharonda for Dina and Ori for Savu. Toka won’t let Mike go, overruled by tribal vote. Instead, they agree to send Kristin. That makes it three members of old Savu reuniting for the first time in days.
Upon meeting, the three players are given a decision to make. Two players will take food back to their tribe as ‘heroes’; one will stick around for the night on Exile Island. However, there is a reward for whoever stays put: the tethered idol. It’s an advantage tied to the other two players. It can only be played by the person that goes to exile, and only for the other two players.
Kristin ends up volunteering, facing no pushback from Ori and Sharonda. However, there’s an added twist that’s only revealed once the other two head back to camp. If Ori and Sharonda are voted out of the game, the idol becomes a normal hidden immunity idol. It gives Kristin plenty of power, no matter which direction she goes.
When Sharonda goes back to Dina, she mentions that two people got ribs and one person had to go to Exile Island. However, she doesn’t mention the tethered idol advantage. Lewis is skeptical, (correctly) believing that Jeff would offer a potential reward to whichever player sacrifices.
Tension on Toka
Maggie is growing frustrated with her tribe’s freewheeling nature. Instead of looking for food or starting a fire, they’re building swings and relaxing. She pitches Mike on using the Toka hammock as a giant net to catch fish. He’s skeptical, but goes along with the plan so as to not ruffle any feathers.
Brady is annoyed with Maggie, who he sees as lacking game awareness. His frustration is so high that he compares her to a “baby penguin,” constantly getting on his nerves. Ruining the hammock on an ill-advised fishing trip is yet another knock agains the farmer. If relations continue to deteriorate, Brady might consider keeping Mike around and voting Maggie off.
Savu Sandbags Their Challenge
In this week’s immunity challenge, players will race to untangle themselves from braided ropes. They’ll then use those ropes to bring sandbags towards themselves. Then, tribes will use those sandbags to knock puzzle pieces off of a platform. Once all the pieces are on the floor, players will race to complete their puzzles. Unlike Episode 5, two of the three tribes can win immunity.
Savu jumps out to an early lead thanks to an impressive performance through the ropes. That continues into the sandbag throwing portion of the challenge, where Ori takes over for his tribe. Still, all three groups are within mere minutes of each other. Unfortunately for Savu, it all falls apart during the final leg. The three members collapse while assembling their puzzle pieces, which Jeff calls a “disaster in the making.” For the third time in three episodes, Savu will be going to tribal council.
Ori Scrambles
It’s the worst case scenario for the Helicopter Alliance, which sought to bring all four of its members (including Sharonda) to the merge. Devin is proposing that the three current Savu’s all use their shot in the dark, potentially (?) saving everyone from going home. Jelly isn’t going along with the plan, revealing to the other two that she’s in possession of a hidden immunity idol. While their collective alliance is important, it’s not worth leaving her game to chance.
Jelly tells Ori that she can’t come to grips with voting Devin out; he’s been her number one all season. Ori, now in a desperate spot, needs to find an idol of his own…or convince one of the other two to keep him around. Jelly states that she knows Devin “isn’t good for my game”, yet remains committed to keeping her number one.
Ori then shifts to plan B: sway Devin. The actor says that he can help his friend Jelly by acting as a shield, although he’s not pitching actual game logic. Ori tells Devin that he’s not thinking of his own game, which “flips a switch” in his brain. It’s worth noting that Devin possesses an extra vote, giving him the power to control tonight’s vote. Could a big move tear apart Survivor 51’s most prominent duo?
An Emotional Vote Out
At tribal council, Devin says that his conversation with Ori changed his approach to the game. From here on out, he’s going to be looking out for himself first and foremost; it’s Dev 2.0. Ori believes coming into the merge as an obvious pair isn’t great strategically. Jelly counters that by stating that loyalty is the ultimate advantage in Survivor; Devin is someone she’d never doubt under any circumstances. Ori expresses some doubt; will the two of them still be in lockstep a few days from now?
Unfortunately for Ori, it’s looking like too big of a hole to climb out of. He’s aware that this is likely his last night in Fiji, and starts tearing up before the votes are even cast. Regardless, Ori a gamer; he plays his shot in the dark in a last-ditch effort to avoid going home. It proves to be an unsuccessful gambit, leaving him vulnerable. Jelly and Devin then send their former ally home with two votes.
