After a Week 7 bye, the Jacksonville Jaguars return to action as we head into fantasy football Week 8. One player who is ready to step back into an important fantasy role is tight end Brenton Strange. Strange has surged after a slow start, but he is still available on the waiver wire in over half of season-long fantasy leagues. If he’s available in your league, can you add him and start him in Week 8?
Let’s look at Strange’s season so far, then examine his fantasy football outlook going forward.
Brenton Strange’s Breakout
Strange scored his only touchdown of the year in Week 1 against the Browns, catching two passes for 23 yards. He also had only two catches on two targets in Week 2 against the Broncos and three catches against the Patriots in Week 3. None of those three games were especially strong except the season opener, so he looked like a touchdown-dependent starter at that point.
He started to turn things around in Week 4, though, catching seven passes for 95 yards against the Bengals. He caught seven more the next week against the Eagles, finishing with 68 yards in that London matchup. Before the bye week, Strange had another solid game, catching five of seven targets for 44 yards.
While he hasn’t returned to the end zone, his huge usage increase in recent weeks is a great sign for his involvement going forward.
Brenton Strange Fantasy Football Outlook
Strange has an 18.5% target share through his six games this season, which is the second-highest on the team behind only Parker Washington. He has garnered at least seven targets in three straight games, and his volume in an effective offense should make him a fringe starter in most standard-sized formats going forward.
If Strange is going to reach the next level and become an elite option, he needs to get into the end zone. That said, he has three red zone targets this season and scored three touchdowns across 12 games in an injury-riddled 2025. He has been healthy so far this year and has a good chance of scoring more touchdowns if he stays involved.
Coming off the bye week, Strange and the Jaguars will host the Colts in a divisional matchup. They are on a short week in Baltimore in Week 9 against the Ravens, followed by road matchups against the Titans and the Giants. Looking further down the road, Strange has some potentially favorable fantasy playoff matchups, facing the Cowboys, Commanders and Colts in the final three weeks of the regular season.
The Bottom Line: Add Brenton Strange in all leagues if you need TE help
Strange isn’t a top-five option yet because he hasn’t found the end zone enough, but he is a fringe top-10 play most weeks, which makes him a startable option if you need help at the position due to injuries or bye weeks.
In Week 8, Strange also makes sense for DraftKings DFS contests like the NFL $2.5M Fantasy Football Millionaire [$1M to 1st, $100K Leaderboard Eligible]. He has only a $4,000 salary against the Colts, who have allowed the 11th-most FPTS to opposing tight ends. At that salary, Strange brings both a high floor and ceiling as long as he keeps getting so many targets.
