Liverpool currently sit fifth in the Premier League, but between that competition and the UCL, they’ve only lost one game this season. It was a bad defeat, a 3-0 loss to Man City with 10 men, but a defeat all the same. Putting that game aside, they’ve won three of their six other EPL matches, drawing the other three. In the UCL, they are off to a great start with two wins from two to sit fifth in that table as well. In both of their European matches, three or more goals have been scored.
The Reds have a new manager in Andoni Iraola this season, so while it’s not the perfect start, it could certainly be worse. Keep in mind that Liverpool did not have a great season a year ago, but they did very well in the League Phase of the UCL, finishing third in the table while winning six of their eight games.
For the visitors, it’s been an up-and-down start. They are currently 12th in La Liga, winning only two of their nine league matches. They’ve had some big problems defensively, already conceding 13 times in the league. In the UCL, they lost a close game away to Dortmund before beating Napoli at home. In both of their UCL games, three or more goals have been scored.
Liverpool are the better team here, and Anfield is always a huge advantage to have on European nights. I think the Reds will get their third UCL win in a row, and three or more goals should be scored in this one.
