The NBA is officially back in action on Tuesday. Last year’s Western Conference Finals were pure cinema, and tonight, we get a rematch between the two most likely teams to make it out of that side of the bracket. The Oklahoma City Thunder are obviously still a force to be reckoned with, but Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs are going to give them a run for their money in their season opener.
Here’s the top Victor Wembanyama player prop on DraftKings Sportsbook for tonight’s Spurs vs. Thunder matchup.
Best Victor Wembanyama prop bet pick
Is it fair to say Victor Wembanyama is the best player in the NBA now? In just three seasons, the 7-foot-4 big man has racked up two All-Star appearances, an All-NBA nod, a DPOY honor, two All-Defensive nods and a Western Conference Finals MVP after leading his team to the NBA Finals. He comes off a season of 25.0 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 3.1 blocks, the latter of which once again led the league for the third time. The most impressive part is that he did all of that in just 29.2 MPG and at the age of only 22. The sky is truly the limit for the transcendent talent.
Looking ahead to the new season, he and the Spurs open with a playoff rematch at home against the Thunder. Last year, he faced off against Oklahoma City a staggering 12 times thanks to NBA Cup play and the Western Conference Finals series, so there’s a huge recent sample to look at. Wembanyama averaged 23.6 points, 10.2 rebounds and 2.7 assists in those games, also posting 2.1 blocks and 1.0 steal per game. He also shot quite well overall, hitting 49.5% of his attempts and knocking down 43.8% of his threes.
Wembanyama was quite effective in those matchups and it was clear that Chet Holmgren couldn’t hold him in check. Tonight, the Spurs’ star should immediately step onto the floor as his team’s top option as per usual. DraftKings Sportsbook lists his prop bet lines at O/U 26.5 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 made threes with 3.5 blocks as well.
All in all, the under on his rebounds line does make sense in this spot. Wembanyama went exactly 43-for-86 on the over/under for this rebounding line, but he remained under in nine of his 12 games against Oklahoma City. For what it’s worth, those three in which he did go over were sandwiched between four and five straight games of failing to record 12 or more boards, and he only reached double digits in five of those 12 total games. The Thunder’s double-big lineup with both Holmgren and Isaiah Hartenstein sharing the floor does crowd the paint plenty, so I prefer taking Wembanyama to stay under this mark here.
