Nebraska vs. Oregon prediction
This is a pretty tough game to pick a side in. On one hand, we’re getting a massive discount on the Ducks at home in a Saturday night primetime game. The GOTY number preseason was -21.5, and now we can lay -7 or buy it under a touchdown for a little juice. And, of course, the opponent is a Nebraska team that’s notorious for dropping big games.
But that 31-game losing streak against ranked opponents doesn’t apply here. The Ducks have taken losses as a double digit favorite to Oklahoma State and UCLA, and fell out of the top-25. Dante Moore remains out following the concussion at USC, and Dylan Raiola’s stock might be at an all-time low.
After operating the offense at an elite level at USC, we expected strong QB play from Raiola out of the bye. He went 6-for-19 for 43 yards with two interceptions and two fumbles at home against the Bruins and got benched in the second half. The QB play has nowhere to go but up, but there’s major questions surrounding this Oregon offense entering Saturday night. Will Raiola get a chance for revenge against his former team? If he does, who does that favor?
The Nebraska defense has been solid. In three conference games, the Huskers have held their Big Ten competition to an average of 18.7 points per game. That includes limiting Indiana to 20 points last week, including just six entering the fourth quarter. Oregon’s defense has not been as advertised, but with the state of the offense you almost have to expect the Ducks to slow things down.
UCLA left a ton of points on the table last week, but Oregon still held it to 17 points if we go by the scoreboard. This just has the feel of an ugly one in Eugene, once again. I think the underdog probably hangs in there, but I feel better about simple backing the under on the total.
