NFL Week 6 Picks and Predictions: Straight-Up Picks with Confidence Levels
High Confidence
Rams over Cardinals
The Rams are huge favorites at home against Arizona. The Rams have a losing record, but are still co-favorites to win the Super Bowl. That is because they should dominate their easy schedule over the next few weeks and get back to the top of the NFL. That begins this week.
Chiefs over Chargers
The Chargers are now 0-5 and look completely defeated. The Chiefs should take care of business at home and get this win.
49ers over Commanders
The 49ers’ offense is the best in the league, measured by success rate. Meanwhile, the Washington defense ranks 27th in success rate. San Francisco should roll in this spot.
Colts over Titans
The Titans are also 0-5 and look lost on both sides of the ball. When the Colts play conservatively and just run the football, they are really hard to beat. They should be able to do that in this game.
Medium Confidence
Patriots over Jets
The Patriots are starting to look like the team from last year over the past two weeks. They pulled off a road upset in Buffalo and steamrolled the Raiders. While the Jets are a competitive team, New England should keep the momentum rolling at home.
Bills over Raiders
The Bills are now 4-1 and have the best offense in the NFL, measured by EPA/play. They should be able to put up a big number against the Raiders. While Las Vegas could keep this close at home, Josh Allen should make the winning plays as he almost always does.
Ravens over Browns
The Ravens could be getting Lamar Jackson back this week. Even if they don’t, Tyler Huntley showed that he can make the plays necessary to win games last week. This should be a tight divisional game, but Baltimore should squeak out the win.
Steelers over Buccaneers
The Buccaneers got their first win last week thanks to a shambolic performance from the Cowboys. Pittsburgh is a much more solid team and won’t make the same mistakes the Cowboys did. The Steelers’ defense will make life hard for Jalon Daniels, and Pittsburgh should get the win.
Jaguars over Texans
The Jaguars snuck out a close win in the first game of their London trip last week against the Eagles. Now, their division rivals are headed over to challenge them in their second home. The Texans finally got a much-needed win last week, but the offense still isn’t very sharp. The Jaguars are the more complete team and have a big travel advantage.
Coin-Flip Games
Seahawks over Broncos
This is a great matchup between two of the four conference championship finalists from last season. The Seahawks need to get back to winning ways after dropping a close one to the 49ers last week. They should do just that in this game. These are two elite defenses, but the Seattle offense should make a few more plays to get the win.
Bears over Falcons
The Bears could be getting Caleb Williams back this week. If they do, the offense should start firing on all cylinders again. The Atlanta offense has drastically improved since the return of Michael Penix Jr., and he is expected to play in this game despite being banged up with a rib injury. There is a ton of quarterback uncertainty in this game, but if both teams roll out their backups, the Bears should win, so I’ll give them the edge.
Saints over Giants
The Giants are incredibly fortunate to be 3-1-1. The Cardinals and Titans both threw interceptions inside the five-yard line on would-be game-winning touchdown drives against the Giants two weeks in a row. Then, last week, the Commanders had some of the worst game management in NFL history by not attempting a game-winning kick. If those three teams had capitalized on their opportunities to score on those drives, the Giants would be 1-4 and their season would be virtually over. The negative regression should hit here.
Panthers over Eagles
The Eagles have serious issues. Jalen Hurts has really struggled, and they have no run game without Saquon Barkley. The Panthers, meanwhile, rank eighth in the NFL in offensive EPA/play. Believe it or not, I trust Bryce Young more than Jalen Hurts to make the winning plays in this game.
Cowboys over Packers
This is a true coin-flip game between two hot-and-cold teams. The Packers’ offense was one of the worst in the NFL until a flurry of explosive passing plays last week. Meanwhile, Dallas has a top-five offense in the NFL, but arguably the worst defense in the league. In the modern NFL, I’ll always take the better offense in a coin-flip game, so give me Dallas here.
