Best NHL Player Props Today

Tage Thompson 4+ Shots on Goal (-105)

Thompson has logged just two shots on goal across the past two outings after clearing this total in each of his first five outings of the new season. Those two misses came against the Panthers and Canadiens, both of which rank inside the top half of the league in limiting opponent shots on goal. Tonight’s matchup against the Maple Leafs, who have allowed the fourth-most shots per game, is a great bounce-back spot for Thompson. The 28-year-old ranks eighth in shots per 60 and 12th in shot attempts per 60, and he has cleared 4+ SOG in four of his past five meetings against Toronto. These teams dislike each other, too, and I’d expect a healthy dose of power play opportunities on both sides, and Buffalo’s whole philosophy on the man advantage is to give the puck to Thompson and let him work.

Connor McDavid 2+ Points (-115)

Through the first six games, McDavid has totaled four goals and 13 assists, and he is currently on pace for, uh… 238 points. The hiring of Mike Babcock as Edmonton’s head coach has turned this generation’s Wayne Gretzky into the actual Wayne Gretzky. The Oilers draw a home matchup against the Mammoth tonight, and this will likely be their biggest test thus far after beating up on poor goaltending teams such as the Canucks, Sharks and Kings. Still, McDavid is on another level, and his teammates are also locked in, with both Evan Bouchard and Leon Draisaitl ranking inside the top-10 of the league in points. McDavid has cleared 2+ points in each of his past six meetings against this Mammoth team, and while Karel Vejmelka has been solid, his 2.45 GAA and sub-.900 SV% don’t exactly jump off the page, especially against the Oilers’ offensive attack.
