What Time Is Scrubs on Tonight? Season 2, Episode 4 Time & How to Watch

Scrubs continues to beat the odds, proving itself to be one of the rare instances where a revival is worthy of existing beyond pure nostalgia.

The show has proven that it can still provide equal measures of humor, whimsy and heart all while delivering a message at the same time. I found last week’s episode to be an example of Scrubs at its very best, proving the show still has something worthwhile to say 25 years after first debuting on our TV screens.

This week’s episode appears as though it will put J.D. in a difficult spot between his personal relationship with his best friend Turk and his professional responsibility as Chief of Medicine. What will he do?

Scrubs Season 2, Episode 4: What to expect

New episodes of Scrubs air every Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET on ABC and stream the next day on Hulu. Here is the log line for the fourth episode of Season 2, “My Chief,” that will air on October 14:

“My Chief”

After uncovering a costly mistake made by Turk, J.D. must decide whether to report him or let it slide. Meanwhile, Elliot grows her responsibilities at Sacred Heart by leading a new initiative.

What Happened Last Time on Scrubs

(Warning: Spoilers ahead.)

  • Stages of relationships were a big theme of “My Ex’s Ex.” You have the early puppy dog love of J.D. and Charlie, the mature and perhaps mundane long-lived-in love of Turk and Carla and you have Elliot, who is faced with the decision on whether she is willing to open herself up to hurt again in the pursuit of happiness. After false starts — Turk’s “weaponized incompetence” and Elliot’s attempt to protect herself by throwing herself into her work — everyone gets to the place where they need to be. Turk reveals he really was listening in couples therapy because he cares about his relationship with Carla and Elliot — with a push from J.D. explaining that he wants her to have the happiness he is feeling — takes the leap with Sean.
  • From that Elliot-Sean arc, I liked the fake out where if you blinked you might have thought they were setting up the potential for J.D. to fall back into the bad habit of wanting Elliot again when she was on the precipice of moving on. Sean even referenced his history of doing it. It’s a sign of growth for the character to realize that he is happy with Charlie and caring for Elliot — in a non-romantic way — means wishing the same for her. The door never really shut on an Elliot-J.D. recoupling in this revival series, but now that feels highly unlikely.
  • Elliot not only got a nice personal moment in this episode, but a professional one. Elliot truly listens to her patient and is able to HEAR her. Whereas other doctors just brushed the patient’s condition aside, Elliot was able to discover what others missed and make the patient feel seen and heard. It’s become increasingly accepted that women face issues of medical mistreatment and bias, and Scrubs was able to convincingly weave this real issue into its tapestry amid dream sequences of doctors with literal ham hands. This is an example of Scrubs at its very best.
  • With so much focus on the legacy characters this week, there was relatively little room for the newbies. But, we did get a glimpse into what makes Blake tick. We learn why he went into medicine —a cardiologist giving him more time with his mom – and it provided the path forward for him in his own career. Palliative care seems like a reasonable trajectory for Blake, especially after he worked last season on dropping his “doctor face” and treating the patient as well as their illness.
  • The Blake plot also added some additional color to the J.D.-Grant working relationship. It initially looks like J.D. is once again picturing what he wants reality to be rather than what it is — the man did dream up his future in the original series’ faux finale in Season 8 — but it turns out there was a method to his madness. J.D. wanted to find the right time to tell Blake that being a cardiologist wasn’t right for him, but Grant jumped the gun under the auspices of J.D. looking to avoid a hard conversation. This allows J.D. to teach Grant something — as hospital leaders it’s their job to make sure that their talented interns have the will to keep going so that they can develop the skills that will take them to where they need to go. It’s something J.D. learned from Dr. Cox — even if Cox could be harsh and borderline cruel, he always stood up for the interns he really believed in and made sure they didn’t wash out. This teaching moment is the mentorship Cox was telling J.D. he put him in this role to do back in the season premiere.
