Inter Milan vs. Club Brugge prediction, pick for Tuesday 10/13/26

In 2024/25, Inter Milan entered the Champions League semifinals as underdogs against Barcelona, but Yann Sommer came to the rescue. The Nerazzurri shot-stopper made a combined 14 saves across two legs to carry the Italian giants to their second Champions League final in three seasons. He then helped Inter to another Serie A title in 2025/26, although the club was disappointingly eliminated against Bodø/Glimt in the knockout playoffs.

Now, Sommer is gone, having signed in the summer with Club Brugge. He’ll start for the Blue-Blacks at 3 p.m. ET (9 p.m. local) tonight as Brugge travels to the San Siro for a Champions League date with the Nerazzurri. It’ll be an emotional affair for Sommer, who won two domestic titles in his three seasons.

Inter is a -400 favorite at DraftKings Sportsbook to claim all three points, and the Blue-Blacks are +1000. There are +550 odds that the teams will draw.

Below, I’ll break down Sommer’s revenge match and provide my favorite bet.

Inter Milan vs. Club Brugge Best Bet:

  • Lautaro Martínez to Score and Inter Milan Win (-105): Martínez has netted in six of his past 13 games for club and country dating back to the World Cup, and he has a knack for producing in big games, producing a brace in the Nerazzurri’s battle against 2024/25 Scudetto winners Napoli and 2026/27 title challengers Roma. Brugge allows far too many shots, even in the weaker Belgian Pro League, and Martínez only needs a few opportunities to score past his former teammate Sommer.

Inter Milan vs. Club Brugge prediction, pick

It’s hard to glean too much from the early season, but it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the Nerazzurri are in contention for another Scudetto early, behind only Roma on goal difference. Despite drawing against the Giallorossi, Inter had an impressive comeback victory against Napoli. It is, however, 0-0-1 in the Champions League, dropping a tightly-fought 2-1 battle against Real Madrid in the Spanish capital. As for Brugge, which has won two Belgian Pro League titles in the past three seasons, it currently sits third, one point behind Union Saint-Gilloise and Ghent after picking up six wins and a loss from its first seven matches. The Blue-Blacks are also on zero points in the Champions League, losing 3-2 against Aston Villa at home, but they’re technically ahead of the Nerazzurri on goals scored, sitting just inside the playoff picture with Inter just outside.

Although the Nerazzurri have been known as a defensive-oriented side in recent seasons, they still have the best attack in Italy. No Italian side has scored more goals, produced more xG worth of chances, or uncorked more shots on target than Inter this season. Lautaro Martínez has four goals in five matches, with Marcus Thuram and Hakan Çalhanoğlu each contributing three of their own, and despite losing, the Nerazzurri managed the 12th-most expected goals of any team in their Champions League opener. Inter has also been the most clinical passing team overall in both the Champions League and Serie A so far, as its flexible 3-5-2 allows it to control possession while also morphing into a more attacking style when the situation calls for it. That flexibility has typically paid some dividends on the defensive end, but so far, the Nerazzurri haven’t been as clinical as usual on that side of the ball, as they’ve allowed merely the fifth-fewest xG and third-fewest shots on target despite their possession dominance and high win rate on ground and aerial duels. Inter has produced plenty of high turnovers with its press and has stayed disciplined, but it’s made a few too many errors, leading to easy opportunities. More pressingly, former Sommer understudy Josep Martínez hasn’t proven to be a capable replacement, ranking fifth-to-last in goals prevented.

The Blue-Blacks are somewhat of a veteran-led squad, but they have some rising attacking talents. 26-year-old Hugo Vetlesen and 22-year-old Nicolò Tresoldi (an AC Milan target) are tied for the team lead with four goals each, and 22-year-old Carlos Forbs and 20-year-old Jan Virgili have two each. As a result, Brugge has tied for the second-best attack in Belgium so far, scoring six fewer goals than Union SG and attempting the most total shots. Though it’s struggled to get those shots on goal, it was clinical during the 2025/26 Champions League and didn’t lose many contributors from that team. Defensively, it’s been a mixed bag; although the Blue-Blacks have tied for the fewest goals and fourth-fewest shots on target allowed in the Pro League, they allowed the fourth-most goals of any team in its Champions League opener despite playing a front line that is struggling in England. They were dominant on aerial duels, winning nearly three-quarters of them against Villa, but they struggled on ground duels, and they didn’t turn any of the eight high turnovers they forced into shots. Brugge has been disciplined in domestic competition but foul-happy against the Villans, and it hasn’t been good at playing the offsides trap in either the Pro League or the UCL. Sommer is still a failsafe between the sticks, leading the Pro League in clean sheets and ranking second in save percentage, but his defense needs to help him out.

I have respect for Tresoldi and for Forbs, a former Manchester City academy project. The Blue-Blacks have made it to at least the knockout playoffs in the Champions League in each of the past two seasons, and sealing Sommer’s commitment was an impressive feat, making him one of the most talented players in the Belgian top flight. However, the Nerazzurri are just the more talented side, and Brugge has given up too many high-quality looks not to pay for it against finishers as good as Martínez, Thuram, and Çalhanoğlu. The Blue-Blacks also haven’t been active enough in the passing lanes in either the Pro League or the Champions League, and Inter’s clinical ball control will allow it to claim its first three points, perhaps with Calhanoğlu, Andy Diouf, or Nicolò Barella feeding Martínez.

Best Bet: Lautaro Martínez to Score and Inter Milan Win (-105)
