Last season, the Champions League ended in heartbreak for Barcelona once again. The Blaugrana have been a dominant force in Spain over the last couple of seasons, winning back-to-back La Liga titles, but they fell in stunning fashion to Atlético Madrid in the Champions League quarterfinals in 2025/26.
After a strong start to the 2026/27 campaign, Barcelona is hoping to build towards an eventual place in the final, with the League Phase mostly about staying healthy and qualifying for the Round of 16. Barça’s League Phase will continue at 3 p.m. ET (10 p.m. local) in Istanbul against Galatasaray.
The Blaugrana are -360 favorites at DraftKings Sportsbook to claim all three points, and Cimbom is +700. There are +600 odds that the teams will share the spoils.
Below, I’ll break down this clash between one of Europe’s westernmost and easternmost teams and provide my favorite bet.
Galatasaray vs. Barcelona Best Bet:
- Barcelona -1.75 (-130): Galatasaray has a solid enough attack to get one past Joan García, especially if Victor Osimhen plays the full 90 minutes, but he’s only just returned from a thigh injury. Barcelona’s attack looks just fine without Raphinha, and Cimbom’s defense suffers too many lapses. The Blaugrana should win this one by two or three goals.
Galatasaray vs. Barcelona prediction, pick
As might be expected from a team that has won the Turkish Süper Lig in each of the past four seasons, Galatasaray is once again in contention for its domestic title early on. Despite losing to Trabzonspor, Cimbom is 4-1-1, behind only newly-promoted Amedspor on goal difference. It also lost its first Champions League tie, 3-1, to Sporting CP, but dropping a road match against the Lisbon-based side is hardly cause for concern. Barcelona hasn’t just been unconcerning; it’s been the continent’s most dominant team, winning each of its first nine matches in all competitions by at least two goals. The Blaugrana currently sit third in the Champions League table after beating Dutch runners-up Feyenoord 5-1 on September 9 in their opening match.
Last season, Galatasaray leaned on its attack to advance to the Round of 16 for the first time since 2013/14, scoring five goals against Juventus in the first leg of the knockout playoffs to send the Italian outfit home. Unsurprisingly, Cimbom has been solid on that side of the ball this season too, scoring 13 in six Süper Lig games. Victor Osimhen is tied for third in the league with six goals despite missing one match with an injury, and Gabriel Sara and Abdülkerim Bardakcı have contributed a pair of goals each. All in all, Galatasaray has scored the fourth-most goals in the Süper Lig while recording the most shots and shots on target. It also managed a solid 1.23 xG in its UCL opener despite losing. However, Cimbom has been far more open in the back, giving up the sixth-most goals of any team in Turkey despite allowing the second-fewest shots and the fewest shots on target. It also allowed more expected goals per shot than any team in its Champions League opener and winning just one-third of its aerial duels, and with Wilfried Singo remaining out with a thigh injury, that might not change any time soon. Goalkeeper Uğurcan Çakir could be due to bounce back, given that he’s saved only 52.6% of the shots on target he’s faced, but he’s coming off of a rough World Cup and hasn’t been any better for the Crescent-Stars in the Nations League.
Cimbom will need perfection against Barcelona, which didn’t miss Raphinha (thigh) very much in its La Liga win over Getafe. The Blaugrana have had the best attack in the world, with Lamine Yamal registering 12 goal contributions in eight La Liga matches and adding a goal and two assists in the Blaugrana’s win over Feyenoord. Fermín Lopez and Raphinha have helped make up for the departures of Ferrán Torres and Robert Lewandowski, helping Barcelona score 13 more goals than any other team in Spain. All in all, the Blaugrana have produced by far the most xG in La Liga while also being among the most accurate and most aggressive passing teams, and their finishing has been exceptional to boot. Barça hasn’t been perfect defensively, allowing the most xG per shot in La Liga, but it’s still allowed the fewest shots and xG in Spain’s top flight and among the fewest in the Champions League. The Blaugrana have given up two goals in three different games this season, but I still trust Joan García between the sticks, and they’re coming off of a clean sheet against the Azulones in which it allowed only four total shots.
It’s definitely possible that Galatasaray manages to put at least one past García, as it scored in all but one of its Champions League fixtures at home last season. RAMS Park is a difficult place to play for any team, and Cimbom managed a couple of impressive results at home last season, including a pair of wins over Liverpool and a draw against Los Colchoneros. However, its defense allowed too many high-quality shots for Barça not to capitalize, and I’m not sure if Osimhen is healthy enough to play all 90 minutes. Hansi Flick’s men should win comfortably.
