After years in development, VisionQuest is finally here. The latest series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe follows in the footsteps of WandaVision and Agatha All Along, completing a thematic trilogy of sorts on the small screen. And as the final project before Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, VisionQuest also serves as the last chance for the MCU to set up its biggest crossover yet.

If you are eager to know more about the newest Marvel TV show, here is everything you need to know before VisionQuest premieres:

When does VisionQuest come out?

VisionQuest will premiere on Disney+ at 9 p.m. ET on Tuesday, October 13 – a day earlier than initially scheduled. Episode 1 is reportedly about 53 minutes long, while Episode 2 is expected to come in around 45 minutes. Both episodes – titled “No Strings” and “Theseus” – actually premiered at the British Film Institute’s London Film Festival on Monday, October 12, before hitting streaming.

Marvel has utilized multiple release strategies when it comes to Disney+ shows in recent years. Wonder Man was a binge drop back in January, while both seasons of Daredevil: Born Again have released episodes weekly. VisionQuest is going to release two episodes in each of its first three weeks on the air, then give Episodes 7 and 8 their own weeks to breathe. Here is the show’s full release schedule:

  • Episodes 1 & 2 – “No Strings” & “Theseus” – Wednesday, October 13
  • Episodes 3 & 4 – “Reboot” & “Malware” – Wednesday, October 20
  • Episodes 5 & 6 – “Firewall” & “Deadlock” – Wednesday, October 27
  • Episode 7 – “Immolation” – Wednesday, November 3
  • Episode 8 – “Forever” – Wednesday, November 10

(Warning: Spoilers for Avengers: Endgame, WandaVision, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Agatha All Along ahead.)

What to expect in VisionQuest

The Vision that Tony Stark and Bruce Banner built during Avengers: Age of Ultron is gone – well, kind of. Thanos killed the android during Avengers: Infinity War when he pulled the Mind Stone out of his forehead. Then, during the events of WandaVision, Wanda Maximoff conjured a fabricated version of Vision as part of her grief-fueled bubble reality in Westview, New Jersey. However, S.W.O.R.D. built and programmed their own version of Vision from the android’s remains, commonly known as White Vision. S.W.O.R.D. sent that zombified robot to kill Wanda to end her spell and free the citizens of Westview, but her Vision intervened. Instead of simply beating him up, Vision actually outwitted White Vision using the Ship of Theseus thought experiment. He transferred his memories to White Vision, who accepted that he had become the real Vision and flew away.

White Vision-turned-real Vision hasn’t interacted with the rest of the MCU since we last saw him over five years ago. Wanda, meanwhile, completed her transformation into the Scarlet Witch and served as the main villain of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. In an effort to steal versions of her fabricated twin sons from other universes, Wanda lost herself to the Darkhold and ultimately died. As it turned out, her sons were still on Earth-616, after all. In Agatha All Along, we discover that Billy’s consciousness didn’t disappear when Wanda’s Westview bubble collapsed. Instead, it latched onto a nearby teen who was in a fatal car accident, bringing him back to life. Billy discovered his identity over the course of that show and, by the end, teamed up with the ghost of Agatha to locate his brother’s soul and place it in the body of another dying teenage boy.

Based on the trailers for VisionQuest, this reconstructed version of Vision is going to discover that Tommy is out there and needs his help. While Billy is a sorcerer, taking after his mother, Tommy is a speedster like his late uncle, Pietro. In order to save Tommy, Vision is going to need the help of the other artificial intelligences from MCU past and present. That list includes F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H., D.U.M.-E, J.A.R.V.I.S. and Ultron. Human forms of each A.I. populate Vision’s Mindspace, but naturally the villainous Ultron is going to try to break free and wreak havoc.

There is also a vengeful android named Jocasta on the loose, plus a mysterious bounty hunter named Paladin who has a score to settle with Vision. And when it comes to Vision himself, he will have to go on a quest of self-discovery, still grappling with his own splintered identity and the trauma of his forbearer. Crossing paths with Tommy could eventually lead him to Billy and Agatha, too.
