What an international break it’s been. Not in terms of what’s been on the pitch, but what’s happened off the pitch with Man City. Their fate carries a lot of impact in relation to Man United, their next door neighbors. The fallout from that case can have a trickle-down impact throughout the Premier League, but we have to see what the results of the sanctions of that are before we know how big of an effect it’s going to have on the rest of the clubs.
For these two teams, it’s been a very disappointing start to the season. Some people thought Man United could potentially be in a title race this season, but they’ve looked nowhere near that level and are currently in 12th place and 10 points off the top. Their only win has come against newly promoted Ipswich, and they have drawn two and lost two.
For Tottenham, the expectations were lower after barely escaping relegation last season, but somehow they’ve gotten worse. Spurs are dead last in the table, with only two points secured so far. They’ve drawn two games, lost three and have yet to pick up a win while only scoring twice in five matches.
Despite them struggling so far in this campaign, Man United are still the better team here and they will also be in front of their home fans. In the reverse fixture last season, United were 2-0 victors. The Red Devils finished third in that campaign, while Spurs ended in 17th. Going back to the end of last season, Tottenham have only won one of their last eight Premier League matches. I can’t back a team in that kind of form, which is why I think Man United are the much safer bet in this one.
