Jay Sawvel’s Cowboys couldn’t score from North Dakota State’s one Saturday. Tyler Hughes mishandled a snap after a penalty, then missed Jake Wilson on fourth down. Wyoming arrives at 2–3; San Jose State is 3–2 after turning two interceptions into ten points at Hawaii. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for today’s college football game between the San Jose State Spartans and the Wyoming Cowboys.
Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

SJSU vs. Wyoming prediction, preview
Tyler Hughes passed up a short throw to Jake Wilson on Wyoming’s first snap at NDSU, Sawvel said, and threw an interception. Wilson later cut inside on an out route; Hughes took a sack. Christian Taylor, Wyoming’s new coordinator, isn’t changing quarterbacks. He needs Hughes and Wilson to complete those shorter throws against Jeremiah Tuiileila, who sacked Hawaii’s Micah Alejado twice Saturday. Wyoming returned only two starting linemen. Deion DeBlanc will miss Friday’s game with a toe injury.
Samuel Harris and Markell Holman give Taylor reason to run first. They gained an imposing 181 yards on 26 carries against Hawaii, helping Hughes throw for 204 yards on 23 attempts without an interception. NDSU squeezed those backs to 72 yards on 20 carries. Bojay Filimoeatu’s Spartans have allowed a respectable 3.9 yards per rush through five games. Wilson can give Hughes a shorter throw when the runs fail. San Jose State conceded 338 passing yards to Alejado; I expect Hughes to complete early throws, though he has yet to throw a touchdown in four FBS games.
Luke Weaver found Carson Clark deep when San Jose State needed an answer Saturday. Clark’s 43-yard catch carried them to Hawaii’s nine after their lead shrank to one point. Weaver threw two touchdowns without an interception, averaging a lively 8.8 yards per attempt after Fresno State picked him off four times. Craig Stutzmann lost his three leading receivers after last season. I like the freshman Clark against Wyoming’s replacement corners. Tyson Shamsid-Deen and Kendall Griffin are out; Ian Bell remains questionable. Cooper Hoch gives Weaver a shorter throw, too, having caught one on fourth down to extend the final scoring drive.
Wyoming vs. SJSU pick, best bet
Weaver still came away from Clark’s long catch with three points. Hawaii sacked him, and Jabari Bates gained only four yards on the next play. Bates needed 27 carries to gain a meager 74 yards that night. Wyoming’s Jayden Williams has sacked quarterbacks in consecutive games; Donnie Wingate added his first at NDSU. I expect them to reach Weaver when Bates leaves him throwing on third-and-long behind two new tackles. San Jose State needed two fourth-down conversions on their final, 26-yard possession. They finished that one with a field goal, too.
I expect Weaver to throw three touchdowns, including one after his defense supplies a short field. Williams should force punts; Trajan Sinatra can finish a drive with a kick. Harris and Holman should run Wyoming to one touchdown, but the Cowboys have finished only eight of 16 red-zone visits that way. Erik Sandvik should make two field goals; he has made all five attempts this season. I’ll take under 42.5 on a 24–13 game.
Best bet: Under 42.5 (-108).
Projected score: San Jose State 24, Wyoming 13
Best Bet: SJSU vs. Wyoming u42.5 total points scored (-110)
