NFL DFS Picks: Best DraftKings Fantasy Football Plays for Week 5

Published:

By: Stan Son

There’s one game on this slate that makes us go schwing. Jared Goff could put balls on a string while Jacoby Brissett responds with zing after zing. Unfortunately, he is no spring chicken and it’s well within the range of outcomes that he throws multiple interceptions. Causing many to be grief-stricken. But that scenario is not written in stone. Excellent, because I do not wish to hear grown men groan and moan. I only want to see someone sit atop the throne alone when all is said and done. That means a lineup creator did a job well done and won.

We’ve got 11 games on Sunday’s main slate. Five of them have a spread of three points or fewer on DraftKings Sportsbook. No games have a double-digit favorite. Four games have a total of at least 45 points, with Detroit-Arizona having the highest at 54.5 points. The lowest total is the Houston-Tennessee at 37.5 points. There are six home dogs.

Quarterback

Stud

Jared Goff, Detroit Lions at Arizona Cardinals ($6,600) – This game has the highest total on the slate by a wide margin, as both defenses are suspect while the offenses are more than capable of delivering fantasy goodies. The ownership will likely be sky-high, though, so something to consider. There will be no weather concerns as this game will be played indoors. Goff attempted 52 passes last week in a shootout with Carolina. That same volume could be on the menu once again. He’s thrown nine touchdowns on the season without an interception and put up double-digit FPTS in every contest, with two over 20 and a high of 32.8 FPTS. Arizona blitzes at the sixth-lowest rate and is 24th in pressure rate. The -54.87 expected points contributed by the pass defense is third-worst while the unit has allowed 11 passing touchdowns and a quarterback rating of 114.9.

Other Options – Joe Burrow ($6,900), Brock Purdy ($6,500), Drake Maye ($6,300)

Value

Jacoby Brissett, Arizona Cardinals vs. Detroit Lions ($5,500) – Brissett hasn’t been as efficient or productive as Goff, throwing six touchdowns with four interceptions. He did attempt 52 passes two games ago, though, in a shootout with San Francisco. Things are set up for a similar outcome in this one, as Detroit will likely be putting up points against the Arizona defense while the Lions defense has been one of the worst in the league so far. The -62.14 expected points are second-worst and the unit has also allowed 11 passing touchdowns while racking up only two interceptions. The passer rating allowed is 110.4. Now, Detroit has racked up 15 sacks and is 11th in pressure rate, so that could be an issue.

Other Options – Jayden Daniels ($6,000), CJ Stroud ($5,900), Sam Darnold ($5,800), Aaron Rodgers ($5,300), Deshaun Watson ($5,100), Jameis Winston ($4,800), Tyson Bagent ($4,700)

Running Back

Stud

Jaylen Warren, Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Indianapolis Colts ($6,700) – Rico Dowdle could return for this one, so that could be an issue, so make sure he’s out. With Dowdle out, Warren was playing over 90% of the snaps and put up 23.6 and 15.6 FPTS. He was already the pass-catching back, but garnered five red zone opportunities and 34 carries. The matchup is a good one as the Colts run defense has been porous, allowing 4.8 yards per carry, five touchdowns and 131 yards per game. The -8.33 expected points are the fourth-worst.

Other Options – Jahmyr Gibbs ($9,800), Jonathan Taylor ($7,800), Chase Brown ($6,900), Aaron Jones Sr. ($6,500), D’Andre Swift ($6,200)

Value

Tyler Allgeier, Arizona Cardinals vs. Detroit Lions ($5,100) – Allgeier and Jeremiyah Love have essentially been splitting the snaps at running back this season. Love is dealing with an ankle injury, though, so there’s a chance Allgeier gets the bulk of the work in this one. He’s proven in the past that he can handle a heavy workload and produce. The environment should be a fantasy-friendly one as both offenses should find success. The run defense for Detroit has been bad, allowing six rushing touchdowns, 4.4 yards per carry and 119.8 yards per game. The -14.76 expected points are the second-worst.

Other Options – David Montgomery ($5,800), Braelon Allen ($5,400), Ollie Gordon II ($5,300), Emanuel Wilson ($5,300), RJ Harvey ($5,200), MarShawn Lloyd ($4,800), Woody Marks ($4,800), Keaton Mitchell ($4,500)

Wide Receiver

Stud

Michael Wilson, Arizona Cardinals vs. Detroit Lions ($6,200) – If I like Brissett, I have to like his number one receiver. Wilson has garnered 44 targets, the most by a wide receiver on the Cardinals by a wide margin, and only two behind tight end Trey McBride. Over the last two weeks, Wilson received a whopping 17 and 13 targets. With both starting safeties out, the Lions pass defense has been one of the worst, as the -62.14 expected points are the second-worst. The unit is allowing a 69.7 completion percentage, a 110.4 pass rating and 11 passing touchdowns.

Other Options – Jaxon Smith-Njigba ($8,800), Ja’Marr Chase ($8,100) if he plays, Amon-Ra St. Brown ($7,900), Nico Collins ($7,500), Justin Jefferson ($7,300) if he plays, Garrett Wilson ($6,600), Christian Watson ($6,400)

Value

Roman Wilson, Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Indianapolis Colts ($3,700) – Pittsburgh is third in pass rate at 66.14%. Wilson has garnered six targets in every game and scored a touchdown in two straight, good for 15 and 16.4 FPTS. The Colts pass defense has allowed six passing touchdowns, a 98.4 passer rating and racked up only one interception. The 17.8% pressure rate is third-lowest while the 16.4% blitz rate is also third-lowest. PFF has the Steelers offensive line ranked sixth, so Rodgers should have no issues slicing and dicing this defense.

Other Options – Josh Downs ($6,000), Jameson Williams ($5,900), Matthew Golden ($5,700), DK Metcalf ($5,400), Denzel Boston ($5,200), Romeo Doubs ($5,000), Luther Burden III ($4,900), Malik Washington ($4,600), Marvin Harrison Jr. ($4,400), Antonio Williams ($3,800) if Diggs and McLaurin are out, Isaac TeSlaa ($3,400), Treylon Burks ($3,200) and Dyami Brown ($3,100) if Diggs and McLaurin are out

Tight End

Stud

Trey McBride, Arizona Cardinals vs. Detroit Lions ($6,700) – This game has the highest total on the slate. Yadda yadda. McBride leads the Cardinals in targets and is third in the NFL. Yadda yadda yadda. Detroit has allowed the most fantasy goodies to tight ends this season. Yabba dabba doooo!

Other Options – Brock Bowers ($7,000), George Kittle ($5,200), Sam LaPorta ($4,900), TJ Hockenson ($4,800), Tucker Kraft ($4,700), Colston Loveland ($4,600), Harold Fannin Jr. ($4,400), Mike Gesicki ($4,100)

Value

Michael Mayer, Las Vegas Raiders at New England Patriots ($3,500) – When thinking tight ends and the Raiders, the brain automatically goes to Brock Bowers. And rightfully so, but both Mayer and Bowers are on the field for over 80% of the snaps. Las Vegas utilizes 12 personnel at the third-highest rate. Last week, Mayer caught eight of 10 targets for 82 yards. I have a not-so-sneaky suspicion that New England will focus on Bowers in this one, opening up opportunities for Mayer once again.

Other Options – Pat Freiermuth ($3,900), Hunter Henry ($3,700), AJ Barner ($3,200)

Defense/Special Teams

Stud

Vikings DST at New Orleans Saints ($3,100) – Minnesota blitzes at a ridiculous 66.9% rate. The unit has racked up 16 sacks and seven turnovers. New Orleans has the 18th-best offensive line per PFF and the Vikings DST has put up at least 8 FPTS in every contest with two at 17 FPTS.

Other Options – Texans DST ($3,400), Steelers DST ($3,300)

Value

Dolphins DST vs. Cincinnati Bengals ($2,000) – Both Chase and Higgins could be out for this one. In addition, the forecast calls for the chance of thunderstorms and 89 degree temperatures. It’s tough playing in that humidity. In a vacuum, the Dolphins defense stinks, but the elements and home field could help out.

Other Options – Patriots DST ($3,000), Commanders DST ($2,900), Browns DST ($2,800), Saints DST ($2,600)

Stan joined DraftKings in December of 2020. It was a glorious time, except for that whole COVID thing, when we got Madden streams and boisterous bat flips from the KBO. I was brought on board to bring some West Coast flavor. I especially love hoops, and most of my content is in that arena. When I walk along the beach, strumming my guitar, the beat that I hear is not one of crashing waves. No, it is the beat of the ball bouncing off the hardwood with highs provided by the squeaks of the sneakers. Ball is life.
