Fans who have been eagerly anticipating the second installment of Matt Reeves’ “The Batman” franchise starring Robert Pattinson may have to wait even longer for the iconic superhero to return to the big screen. Production has been paused on the The Batman Part II (Warner Bros and DC Studios) because director Matt Reeves is stepping away for personal reasons.

In a statement provided to Deadline by a DC Studios spokesperson, the company expressed support for the film’s director: “Matt has the full support of DC Studios and we look forward to continuing the journey soon.”
The Batman Part II‘s filming and development faced multiple significant delays before finally beginning filming in London in June 2026. The movie currently has a release date set for Feb. 18, 2028, but it’s yet to be seen if the latest delays will push back the project once again.

Robert Pattinson will reprise his role as Bruce Wayne and Batman in The Batman Part II, with stars Sebastian Stan and Scarlett Johansson set to join the cast. Colin Farrell will also return as the iconic Oz Cobb (The Penguin) in the sequel.
