Should you stash Tyreek Hill with Rashee Rice and Tyquan Thornton injured?

Prior to last season, Tyreek Hill was one of the most prolific wide receivers of the last decade in fantasy football. Now, he’s not even on an NFL roster – yet. Chatter is beginning to pick up that the Kansas City Chiefs might be interested in reuniting with the former star given their various injuries at the position, potentially pairing the speedster with Patrick Mahomes once again.

As smoke begins to build surrounding the situation, should fantasy managers be stashing Tyreek Hill on their rosters and hoping for some news in the coming days?

Should you stash Tyreek Hill in fantasy football?

It’s been a while since Tyreek Hill was a fantasy star, but we all remember what he accomplished on the field. He raddled off six top-10 seasons at wide receiver over his 10-year career and added two more finishes inside the top-24 for good measure. He was a prolific deep-ball threat catching passes from Patrick Mahomes with the Chiefs, but even Tua Tagovailoa supported high-end fantasy production once he moved to the Dolphins back in 2022.

The last couple of years were rougher for Hill, though. He largely showed just glimpses of the player he used to be, failing to hit the 1,000-yard mark over 12 games and scoring just six touchdowns in 2024, which was his worst finish in half a decade. And of course, his 2025 campaign was cut short by a torn ACL that ended his season after just four appearances. He was cut by Miami as a cap casualty this past offseason and still remains unsigned as of October 5. However, whispers of a return have begun to pick up as of late.

A reunion with Kansas City didn’t seem out of the question to begin with, but the team just lost Rashee Rice and Tyquan Thornton due to injuries during a Week 4 win. The former may not be sidelined for too long but the latter will miss significant time, leaving the Chiefs without their best field-stretching wideout. It’s a role that Hill appears destined to fill, and with the team now headed into a bye week as he publicly flirts with the organization on social media, the circumstances may be right for him to suit up in red at some point this year. His agent told ESPN’s Adam Schefter that negotiations are expected to begin with multiple teams this week and that Hill could sign sometime within the next few days.

The connection with Kansas City is undeniable. Given the injuries that the receiver room is dealing with, a healthy Hill could add some much-needed punch to a group currently headlined by Xavier Worthy and Jalen Royals. The Chiefs are also 4-0 atop the AFC West and appear to be fully reestablished as a contender following last season’s disappointment, so if Hill wants to chase another ring, Arrowhead Stadium could be the place to do so.

The issue here is whether Hill is truly healthy after the torn ACL and dislocated knee that ended last season early. Expecting him to look like his vintage self feels unrealistic, but he did seem to be getting back on track prior to the injury with 13.4 FPPG, 66.3 YPG and 2.82 YPRR across three-and-a-half games last season. Could he get back to even 70% of that production? Time will tell.

Look at the state of the waiver wire heading into Week 5, though. Players who could really become an every-week starter in lineups are largely picked over at this point and offerings are becoming more bare. Is a recovered-but-aging Hill more attractive for fantasy output than the other options available? The upside is more theoretical than anything else at the moment, but if he does go to Kansas City and reunite with his former quarterback, he certainly won’t be available for a pickup. Go ahead and add him now just in case.
