The PGA TOUR continues the FedExCup Fall with a trip across the Pacific this week for the Baycurrent Classic in Yokohama, Japan. The event is co-sanctioned by the PGA TOUR and the Japan Golf Tour and will be held at Yokohama Country Club for a second straight season. Players will be competing for critical FedExCup Fall points and a share of the $8 million purse, which awards a $1,440,000 payout to the winner.
The event is unique in this portion of the schedule as an invitational, which offers the 72 players in the field the opportunity to play in a no-cut event. In order to get big names to commit to the event, it helps that they know they’ll get four rounds in Japan instead of traveling so far only to miss the cut. Even with a reduced field, the event draws the strongest field in this portion of the schedule, which includes eight of the top 30 in the Official World Golf Rankings.
The event is the third of the eight tournaments in the FedExCup Fall, which gives players a chance to improve their status heading into next season. With the new schedule format and Challenger and Championship Series in 2028, the 2027 season will be critical for players trying to secure their spots. The top 100 at the end of the FedExCup Fall will earn full-time membership and exemption for next season. The FedExCup Fall is always a great chance to get to know some of the new players who will be joining the PGA TOUR in the future and see some of the veteran players fighting to hold on to their spots.
