West Virginia vs. Iowa State player props
Michael Hawkins Jr. 2+ touchdowns (+230)
Typically, there’s a lot of risk involved with taking any player to record multiple anytime touchdowns. It doesn’t quite feel that way with Michael Hawkins Jr., though. West Virginia’s quarterback has been one of the most lethal in the nation with his legs, producing 425 rushing yards on 72 carries, good for an average of 5.9 YPC. His touchdown total on the ground is up to a Big 12-best nine scores so far over just four games, which is especially impressive given the position he plays. Between he and Cam Cook with the majority of the production, the Mountaineers are averaging 294.8 rushing yards per game. That’s an incredible figure alongside their 3.3 rushing touchdowns per game. The argument for Hawkins is that he’ll handle a ton of touches – he has 18+ rush attempts in three of his four games and is averaging exactly 18 per contest – and has scored two or more touchdowns via the ground in three of four as well. Those came against UT Martin, but also Virginia and Oklahoma State. In those two games against FBS opponents, he scored three touchdowns in each as a rusher.
Aiden Flora 75+ rushing yards (-120)
Halfback Aiden Flora has been one of the heartbeats for Iowa State’s offense thus far. The 6-foot, 175-pound runner leads the team in rushing yards with 382 through four games, also scoring three touchdowns in the process. He’s no superstar by any means, but he’s been efficient with his opportunities for the most part and has seen a healthy workload in each game. He opened the year with 45 yards on seven attempts, but tallied 89 and 194 rushing yards over the next two games with 19 and 12 touches against Iowa and Bowling Green. Last week, he put up 54 yards on 13 carries against Utah. We’re looking at a hit rate of 50% on 75+ yards for Flora, but there’s enough here to make me feel just fine about this prop bet. Iowa State wants to run the ball, posting 36.0 rush attempts per game to just 23.5 pass attempts. The Cyclones are a three-point home underdog and should seek to control the pace of play, so watch for them to turn to the ground often in this one. With Flora posting 7.5 YPC on the year, he can get to at least 75 yards today.
