With 1:54 left in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings, Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield suffered a thumb injury while attempting a pass. With the Buccaneers trailing 20-16, Mayfield was scrambling around on fourth down to try and keep the drive alive. When he finally decided to throw, Mayfield’s right thumb got smacked by a defender trying to block the pass.
Mayfield was in obvious pain and was heard screaming on the telecast. He walked off the field while clutching his thumb.
Prior to exiting, Mayfield went 17-of-34 for 217 yards, a touchdown and an interception and rushed twice for six yards.
If Mayfield is out for an extended period of time, Jalon Daniels is next on the depth chart. Daniels is 23 years old, 6-feet, 219 pounds and played his college ball at Kansas. He went undrafted in the 2026 draft but was able to win the backup job in the preseason.
