Lotzeir Brooks 54+ Receiving Yards (-114)
Keelon Russell has started strong in his first season as the starting quarterback at Alabama. However, he has not had a clear go-to receiver. Alabama once had some of the best wide receiver talent in the country, but has been lacking in that department over the last couple of seasons. Ryan Coleman-Williams was supposed to be the next big thing at wide receiver, but his drop issues have just not gone away. That has forced Russell to look elsewhere for his WR1. The player emerging in that role the last two weeks is Lotzeir Brooks.
Lotzeir Brooks is a true sophomore who saw very limited targets in his freshman season with the Tide. However, he has taken a big step forward in his sophomore season. He led the team with five catches for 54 yards against Kentucky. Brooks again led the team in receptions and yards last week against Florida State, going for 101 yards on eight grabs. Brooks should be the player who can find the vulnerabilities in this South Carolina secondary, which was shredded by Mississippi State last week. He should hit this mark for the third straight week against the Gamecocks.
Donovan Murph Anytime TD (+475)
South Carolina is another team that has struggled to find their WR1 in recent years. Nyck Harbor was supposed to be that player for South Carolina this season, but has not quite met the moment. Outside of Harbor, South Carolina has a handful of talented receivers, but none that have emerged from the pack as a potential WR1. The one player showing the most promise early on in this season would be Donovan Murph, however.
Murph has been the big-play threat so far this season. He leads the Gamecocks in receiving yards, despite only having five grabs all season. His five catches have gone for an average of 27.2 yards and have resulted in two touchdowns. Last week, Murph had a 44-yard grab against Mississippi State. In Week 1, he had a 29-yard touchdown catch and a 37-yard touchdown catch.
Alabama is vulnerable to that long ball, and Kendal Briles should try to exploit that this week. Last week, Florida State completed four passes of 35 yards or longer. There are holes in the back end of the Crimson Tide defense, and South Carolina has no choice but to push it downfield and try to hit some deep shots. At these long odds of +475, I’ll take the guy that has been LaNorris Sellers’ best deep-ball option this season to score a touchdown in Tuscaloosa.
