What happened to Kevin Gausman? Live injury updates for Cubs vs. Marlins on Wednesday 9/23/26

In the top of the sixth inning of Wednesday’s game against the Miami Marlins, Cubs starting pitcher Kevin Gausman was replaced by Javier Assad. With one out, Griffin Conine reached on an infield single. Heriberto Hernandez attempted to advance to third base but was tagged out by Gausman, who ran over to cover. Unfortunately, he suffered an injury. There’s been no official designation given as of yet for the type and extent of the injury.

Prior to exiting, Gausman went 5.2 innings, struck out seven, walked one and allowed two earned runs on six hits. He threw 101 pitches, 67 for strikes.

Since Gausman faced more than five batters, he is not eligible for DraftKings Early Exit.
