Although the winning goal was controversial, it still counts, and the Citizens look to be in another battle with Arsenal for the top spot in the Premier League. Man City have kept a clean sheet in their last two games, and have only conceded twice so far this season. Only Arsenal have conceded fewer, with just one goal allowed.
Sunderland aren’t off to the best start, sitting 14th in the table. They have won one, drawn one and lost two of their first four games. They played their first big six team last weekend against Arsenal at home, and despite a solid performance, they fell 2-0. Things don’t get any easier this week as they go on the road against Man City. The Black Cats have scored three goals this season, with only three teams scoring fewer times through four games.
In the last five Premier League games between the teams, Man City have won four of those games. That includes four clean sheets, with Sunderland only scoring one time across those five matches. Man City kept clean sheets against them in both games last season, and I think they will do so again in this one. Sunderland did well last season but it wasn’t due to their attacking play, as only three teams scored fewer times and two of those teams were relegated. I expect them to struggle to score once again this season, and the early evidence suggests that will be the case. Man City will win this one and keep a clean sheet in the process.
