Is Puka Nacua Playing Week 2 vs. Giants?

Updated:

Rams star wide receiver Puka Nacua will officially be listed as questionable for the Monday Night Football matchup against the New York Giants. Nacua was added to the injury report Friday and missed practice with a hip issue. He is being held out of the Rams’ practice today, and his status for the Week 2 finale is uncertain.

Nacua battled injury issues during training camp and was officially labeled with a psoas injury leading into the season. This is a deep core muscle that impacts the hip flexor, but head coach Sean McVay made it clear this is correlated to the problem that has his status in doubt for Monday night.

Injuries have extended beyond the star pass catcher on this Rams roster. Jordan Whittington would be likely to see his role grow if Nacua is to miss or be limited, but Whittington also missed Friday’s practice due to a quad injury.

Impact of Puka Nacua’s Injury Outlook:

When Nacua is physically right, he is unquestionably one of the most talented wide receivers in the NFL. The BYU product led the league last year with 129 receptions for 1,715 yards and 10 total touchdowns.

Los Angeles struggled greatly in the season opener, losing 27-7 at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers. Its issues were larger than the play from Nacua, who tallied five receptions on nine targets for 74 receiving yards in the 2026 season opener. He finished with 12.4 fantasy points based on DraftKings scoring, which ranked 27th among all wide receivers.

The Rams will be eager to get back to their identity as a high-performing offense, but they have plenty to address from the opening game struggles. If Nacua is to miss or be limited, these concerns would only further magnify. Davante Adams pulled in three receptions for 26 yards in Week 1, while Kyren Williams was the only other player to record more than two catches, with three receptions for 24 yards. Los Angeles has plenty of talent at the tight end position, with Tyler Higbee, Colby Parkinson and Terrance Ferguson each expected to play a role on the season. This trio combined for just three receptions for 18 yards in Week 1, but expect a focused effort to make them a bigger part of the offense with or without the star wide receiver on the field.

Keep an eye on the availability of Nacua leading up to the Monday night matchup. Given the late stage of the week that the injury popped up, it is difficult to project how legitimate the chances of his absence are. Nacua has proven willing and able to play through pain already in his career, but with the lofty expectations of the season and difficult start to the year, it will be interesting if this shifts the Rams’ mindset at all.
