We’re now into Week 2 of the college football season with another loaded slate across the country. Perhaps one of the most interesting matchups of the day takes place at 6 p.m. ET between the Memphis Tigers and Boise State Broncos – the former is looking to contend in the American Conference again and is already 2-0 behind a couple of strong wins; the latter opened its season with a loss but pushed a title-contending Oregon squad to the brink.

Jaylin Carter anytime touchdown (-165)
What a start to the season it’s been for Memphis halfback Jaylin Carter. The sophomore transferred over from Southern Miss, following new head coach Charles Huff to Tennessee. Through two games, it’s clear the newcomer is one of the most trusted pieces of this offense. Carter has taken 38 carries for 280 rushing yards and a whopping five touchdowns, hauling in his lone target for another 18 yards. He isn’t likely to see much in the way of receiving volume, but the backfield talent handled 15 and 19 carries over the first two outings. With that opportunity, he racked up 97 and 183 rushing yards, scoring one touchdown in the opener against UNLV before a ridiculous four scores against Arkansas State last week. The latter of those performances isn’t one he’s likely to replicate, but Carter does feel like a likely candidate for a house call. He’s third on the leaderboard for an anytime touchdown at -165 odds, but that’s still a bet I’m willing to make.
Matt Wagner anytime touchdown (+290)
There’s another anytime touchdown bet that makes a lot of sense in this evening’s contest. We’re looking much further down the board to Matt Wagner, whose odds to score come in at +290. The Boise State tight end operated as the second option at his position last season, catching 24 passes for 251 yards and just one touchdown. but is now the top name in the room. He may not get a ton of volume in an offense that clearly wants to run the ball, but the flip side of that kind of game plan is that he will be on the field a ton. In the season opener against Oregon, Wagner did haul in four receptions for 27 yards and a touchdown, so he’s already found the end zone once. At these odds, I like him to do so again, especially since Memphis could keep this game quite competitive with its own offense and force a more aggressive game script than the 9.5-point spread may imply despite Boise State entering as a favorite.
