The Uprising is the newest adventure film from director Paul Greengrass. Greengrass is best known for directing Captain Phillips and the Jason Bourne films. The Uprising stars Andrew Garfield as the leader of an uprising against King Richard II during the 1381 Peasants’ Revolt in England. It is a dramatization of that real historical event. The film has been advertised as a Robin Hood story, but the film does not get very deep into any sort of Robin Hood lore.

The Uprising has opened to mixed reviews. Users on Rotten Tomatoes are a bit higher on the film than critics, as is often the case. IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes users have given the film an identical score of 65%. Letterboxd users are a bit lower on it, but still give it a solid 60%. Andrew Garfield gives a solid performance, and some of the action sequences are well done, but both critics and movie fans found big chunks of the film too slow.
