In general, the Mariners have not hit left-handed pitching well in 2026. Well, technically, the Mariners haven’t hit anybody well in 2026. That’s beside the point. On Friday night, Seattle will face-off with Jeffrey Springs, who is tied for the MLB lead in most home runs surrendered this season (33). It’ll also face Springs at Sutter Health Park, where the veteran southpaw is conceding a staggering 2.79 opponent long balls per nine with a 10.5% barrel rate. Needless to say, this is a golden opportunity for the Mariners to put up a couple rare crooked numbers. Arozarena has easily been at his best against LHPs this year, slashing .292/.367/.500 with a .208 ISO and a 148 wRC+. This is a perfect matchup for the left fielder.
Roman Anthony 1+ Home Run (+481)
Anthony is striking out a lot since returning from a lengthy IL stint, but he’s also hitting for more power than we’ve ever seen at the MLB level. It’s only a 53 plate appearance sample, yet it’s hard not to be impressed by the phenom’s .271 ISO or his 54.8% hard hit rate. Anthony hit his fourth long ball of his truncated campaign on Wednesday, and on Friday, he’ll be looking for No. 5 against Seth Lugo. Over his past 14 starts, Lugo has pitched to an ugly 6.60 ERA. This is no longer the happy, carefree days of 2024 for the right-hander. In that same 14 game stretch, Lugo’s allowed opposing LHBs to combine to slash .328/.390/.550, while averaging a 1.60 home runs per nine. I smell a real opportunity for Anthony and the rest of the lefties on the Sox.
