Arguably the best game of the first matchweek of the new Champions League season takes place in Madrid. These two teams finished ninth and 10th in the league phase table last season. Real Madrid were knocked out in the quarter-finals against Bayern Munich, while Inter Milan suffered a shock defeat to Bodo Glimt in the Round of 32.
Real Madrid have started this season with three wins out of four in La Liga. Inter Milan on the other hand have been perfect in Serie A, winning all three of their matches so far. I can’t find anything to split these teams at the moment, which is why I’m taking a draw here. These teams haven’t faced off since 2021, so there’s no recent matches to go off here. The game is at home for Real Madrid which gives them a slight advantage, but the Italian champions are no scrubs and I can see them getting a result here. They’re coming off a 3-2 win over Napoli and will be ready to continue that momentum while Real Madrid enter this game off the back of a loss to Real Betis.
Real Madrid and Inter Milan are on the same level in my books at this moment in time. Madrid might have the better team on paper, but let’s not forget that this Inter Milan team have won two of the last three Italian titles, were in a Champions League final two years ago and have started a perfect three for three to start this season. I think these teams split the points on Tuesday.
