PITCHER

Stud

Trevor Rogers, Baltimore Orioles vs. Cleveland Guardians ($8,300) — My first thought was to go with Jesus Luzardo, and he likely has the highest floor/ceiling combo on the slate. Depending on how the rest of the roster looks, I still may go that route. That said, I do think Rogers is a fine option at $2,200 cheaper. Through 144.1 innings, the FIP is 3.54 with a 15.8 K-BB%. Early in the season, the fantasy goodies were not raining down from the heavens, but over the last six contests, he’s put up at least 20 FPTS in four of those contests. The matchup is a good one, as Cleveland is 29th in ISO, 27th in wOBA and 25th in wRC+ against left-handed pitching.

Value

Grayson Rodriguez, Los Angeles Angels at Boston Red Sox ($6,300) — The matchup isn’t great for Rodriguez as Boston has been one of the best offenses. That said, Rodriguez is cheap and he’s put up double-digit FPTS in seven straight, with two of those over 20 FPTS, while throwing over 90 pitches in five of those starts. In addition, Rodriguez has been much better on the road, posting a FIP that is 1.52 lower.

INFIELD

Stud

Carter Jensen, Kansas City Royals vs. Arizona Diamondbacks ($4,800) — Jensen bats leadoff for the Royals and has 22 home runs, 67 runs, 67 RBI and two stolen bases through 533 plate appearances. The strikeout rate is high at 28.1%, but the walk rate is at 10.9% while the Statcast numbers are salivating – 91.4 mph average exit velocity, 20.5 degree launch angle, 11.2% barrel rate and 73.8 mph bat speed. Against right-handed pitching, the wRC+ is 116 with a .246 ISO. Jose Cabrera has a 5.48 FIP and 6.7 K-BB% against lefties. The FIP is also 1.86 higher on the road.

Value

Josh Rojas, Kansas City Royals vs. Arizona Diamondbacks ($2,300) — Yup, we stacking against Cabrera. Rojas doesn’t play every night, so make sure that he’s in the lineup. When he does play, he will bat seventh or eighth, so this would be a wrap around stack. Rojas has little power and speed, so he is not a compelling option by himself. But he’s cheap.

OUTFIELD

Stud

Heriberto Hernandez, Miami Marlins vs. New York Mets ($4,300) — Through 417 plate appearances, Hernandez has 23 home runs, 43 runs, 61 RBI and 10 stolen bases. The walk rate is 10.1% while the strikeout rate is 27.3%. The average exit velocity is 91.1 mph, barrel rate is 14% and the bat speed is 74.5 mph. Against right-handed pitching, the ISO is .202. Jonah Tong has only pitched 10 innings, but the 14.9% walk rate has contributed to a 5.1 FIP. Against righties, the FIP is 6.95 with a -4.8 K-BB%. The lone home run allowed was from a righty.

Value

Kyle Isbel, Kansas City Royals vs. Arizona Diamondbacks ($2,600) — Yup, we stacking against Cabrera. Do I feel good about it? I do not, but it is what it is. Isbel will likely bat ninth in the order, so we are looking at a 8-9-1 wrap around stack. Through 273 plate appearances, Isbel has six home runs and six stolen bases. Against right-handed pitching, the wRC+ is 94 with a slash of .259/.312/.389.
