Rayshon Luke was Fresno State’s leading rusher last season. Luke had 930 scrimmage yards and scored eight total touchdowns in 2025. He returns for another season with the Bulldogs and should put up big numbers again. Last season, the experienced E.J. Warner played quarterback for Fresno. This season, the starter will be Jayden Mandal, who has only thrown nine passes in his college career. The inexperienced Mandal should lean on his running backs heavily in this big season opener against USC.
Fresno State should try to move the ball on the ground and eat clock. It wants to keep the ball out of Jayden Maiava’s hands as much as possible. The Bulldogs also want to make life easy on their green quarterback. The best way to do that is to get the ball to Rayshon Luke, both on the ground and through the air. Last week, USC took its foot off the gas after gaining a big lead, and let San Jose State score three fourth-quarter touchdowns. That is a good sign that even if Fresno State struggles in this game, it should get chances to score across four quarters.
Trent Mosley 60+ Receiving Yards (-104)
Trent Mosley had a remarkable debut against San Jose State. The four-star recruit was expected to have a real role in the USC offense in his freshman season, but Mosley blew those expectations out of the water in his first game. He was Jayden Maiava’s top target in every fashion. He led the Trojans with seven catches, which he took for an incredible 118 yards and a touchdown.
Maiava is going to be one of the best quarterbacks in the country this season, and his top targets will all have great seasons. His top two targets last season, Makai Lemon and Ja’Kobi Lane, were first and third-round 2026 NFL Draft picks, respectively. If Mosley can continue to prove himself as a reliable threat in the aerial game, he should have a sensational freshman season. Just like against San Jose State, Fresno State should struggle to cover Mosley. The freshman is an excellent athlete and can pick up yards after the catch in big chunks. It will be hard to match his massive numbers from last week, but Mosley should get to 60 receiving yards against Fresno.
