A nine-game, 18-team MLB slate is on tap for Thursday. For those looking to cash in quickly on a bet, nothing makes more sense than an NRFI. With that being said, there’s more to this one than meets the eye. Some pitchers thrive early, while others take more time to get settled in than others. Which NRFI picks are worth a closer look on Thursday?

Blue Jays vs. Guardians NRFI (-125)
Picked up at the trade deadline, Jose Soriano has acclimated himself well to life with a new team. Since joining the Blue Jays, the right-hander has notched a 4.13 ERA and 1.38 WHIP. Those aren’t perfect numbers, but it’s the bare minimum we can expect from the Dominican going forward. It helps that Soriano has been terrific during the first inning; he enters Thursday on a 14-game NRFI streak. He’ll hope to keep that going this evening against the light-hitting Guardians. Despite some improvement in recent weeks, this lineup isn’t very intimidating. Cleveland’s offense is 28th in runs per game (4.05) and 22nd in YRFI rate (27.34%).
On the other side, Tanner Bibee will get the nod in this one. Over 162.1 innings pitched, he’s recorded a 3.88 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 128 strikeouts (7.1 K/9). Despite the lack of whiffs, the 27-year-old is one of Cleveland’s most consistent arms. Much like Soriano, he’s come out of the gates hot as well. Bibee is in the midst of a nine-game NRFI streak. Toronto, much like the Guardians, isn’t scaring anyone at the plate. The Blue Jays have put up the second-fewest runs per game (4.00) and are tied for an MLB-worst 23.57% YRFI rate.
Rays vs. Rangers NRFI (-115)
On a stellar Tampa Bay pitching staff, Shane McClanahan is the team’s most talented starter. The former Cy Young winner is putting together another exceptional campaign with the Rays. Through 113.0 innings of work, he’s accounted for a 3.19 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 103 strikeouts (8.2 K/9). To boot, Sugar Shane has produced an outstanding 86.4% NRFI rate this season. Now, the southpaw gets to face a Texas lineup averaging the fifth-fewest runs per game in baseball (4.04). There’s no reason to assume the Rangers will get it together tonight against a two-time All-Star.
Cal Quantrill will toe the slab for the home team this afternoon. All things considered, it’s been a surprisingly good season from the journeyman hurler. Over 89.2 innings, split between the bullpen and starting rotation, he’s produced a 3.01 ERA and 1.10 WHIP. The Canadian has surrendered a total of four earned runs over his previous four outings (1.50 ERA). He’s allowed a first inning run only twice over 11 starts this season (81.8% NRFI). When these teams met on July 28th, Quantrill held Tampa Bay to one run over 5.2 innings.
