The America’s Got Talent quarterfinals continued on Tuesday, this time with a replacement judge on the panel. There were 11 acts trying to punch their ticket to the semifinals this week, although 10 of them were at the mercy of a fan vote with the results dropping Wednesday. As for the other, they earned a fast-pass to the finals from one of the A-list judges.

Contortionist Maria, aerial duo Holland & Sienna, singer Pynk Beard, sword swallower Herwan Legaillard and singer Elsie were the first acts to get the bad news Wednesday night. And despite reaching the top five, poet Guy Kelton Jones I and singer Isaac Atkins got eliminated as well. There are now 11 quarterfinalists remaining with three spots left in the semifinals lineup.
Who advanced on America’s Got Talent?
The first act to advance out of Quarterfinals 3 was singer Lai Noelle, who got a Golden Buzzer live on Tuesday after guest judge Kenan Thompson told Sofia Vergara to press it. Noelle performed a cover of Elton’s John’s “Your Song.” As a result, she skipped both the fan vote and semifinals entirely, jumping straight to the finals.
The results episode Wednesday night featured an appearance from AGT alum Sofie Dossi and her boyfriend Sam Golbach, who ran the show’s official live stream on social media. Sisters Absolutely and Amma, with the Detroit Youth Choir backing them up, made a guest performance as well. Those performances killed time before the voting results themselves came out. Ultimately, magician Kameron Marshall, the Acro Canine Crew and comedian Daniel Alvarez advanced to the Semifinals. The survivors will perform again on Tuesday, September 15, before discovering their fate again on Wednesday, September 16.
What happened to Simon Cowell?
One of the four celebrity judges, Simon Cowell, has been absent since the week of Quarterfinals 2. Longtime SNL cast member Kenan Thompson served as Cowell’s stand-in for the Quarterfinals 3 performances, but he did not return for the results show. Former AGT judge Heidi Klum will replace Cowell for Quarterfinals 4.
Cowell, 66, underwent a routine medical procedure and will be absent from America’s Got Talent for the next few weeks. According to Entertainment Weekly, Cowell had the surgery to address back issues. He initially started having back problems in August 2020, when he got in an electric bike accident and required fusion surgery.
