Silo brings this season to its curtain call this Friday, September 4, with “Troy,” streaming exclusively on Apple TV. To the rejoice of Silo sickos everywhere, the finale’ll run a full one hour. The episode description is deliciously brief, but if you’ve been watching closely, you know what it means: “A leader wakes to a new world.”
That leaves plenty left to discover after the already-intense discovery within “Farewell,” an episode that finally collapsed the stories: the Before Times reached the day mankind erected the Silos. The result was the death of one of the show’s longest-serving characters in the present.

Juliette and Robert began “Farewell” in jail, and stayed there the entire episode. Meanwhile, Bernard tried desperately to plea with Camille and the Algorithm. He offered, he said, to take responsibility for the entire rebellion, him alone, if only Camille would just stop drugging Silo 18’s water and poisoning the people. The Algorithm, however, declined this compromise, and subsequently ordered Bernard outside the Silos instead—a death sentence. One handed down almost a little too exasperatedly, if you asked Bernard.
For Bernard then noticed something peculiar inside the Algorithm. Something about it sounded, and felt, distinctly human. He gave Juliette one last glorious hint: the thought that he no longer believed the Silos were run by a purely mechanical overlord. He then walked outside—without a suit, of course—and died against the famous dying tree.
Billings continued helping from inside the Judicial department while the trio Knox, Shirley, Walker, and the others pushed ahead with escape plan from the Silo. Problem is: it created a terrestrial event. Explosions shook the mines as Bernard died, but the episode stopped short of showing their full damage.
The Before Times jumped ahead three years. Daniel and Helen were still together and, at the time, expecting a child. In this timeline, Charlotte and Anna had also built a life together. All four traveled to Georgia for the public unveiling of the completed silos, still being propaganda’d to the public as shelters rather than permanent underground bunkers.
The showcase unraveled quickly into a Hunger Games-esque draft/lottery. Helen was assigned to Silo 18, Daniel was jettisoned toward Silo 1, and Charlotte suddenly disappeared. Daniel and Helen managed to speak one last time just before a nuclear explosion erupted near Atlanta. And then: fade to black.
And so The Before Times arrived right at the beginning of Juliette’s world. And now we see what happens after the explosions.
