The Washington Nationals’ hopes of making the postseason continue to grow slimmer, but there are still games to be played. This evening, they take on the division rival Miami Marlins. However, they’ll do so without CJ Abrams in the lineup.
The Nationals’ star shortstop has been scratched prior to the contest. No reason has been given for his absence just yet.
It’s been a fantastic season for the young talent. Abrams is enjoying the best campaign of his career by far, slashing .267/.343/.506 for an .849 OPS. He’s racked up 133 hits, 81 runs, 92 RBI, 29 home runs and 26 stolen bases. Assuming he doesn’t miss much more time, he’ll almost assuredly set new career highs across the board.
In an interesting turn of events, Nationals manager Blake Butera did mention earlier in the day that Abrams will split duties in the field between shortstop and second base at a 50/50 rate for the remainder of the year.
The Nationals are 65-74, falling to fourth in the NL East prior to this divisional series against the Marlins.
