UPDATE: Lombard has knee discomfort and is considered day-to-day.
Tough news for Yankees fans. Shortstop George Lombard Jr., New York’s recently graduated top prospect, was forced to leave Saturday’s game with a knee injury.
For what it’s worth, Lombard Jr. did manage to stay in the game defensively for two full innings after the injury, and took another at-bat before being replaced. That’s a positive sign that whatever he did can only be so serious. But that is little comfort to Yankees fans, who need the young shortstop in the lineup as they push for the postseason.
Lombard Jr. was replaced by Amed Rosario.
