Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Detroit Tigers prediction, pick for Saturday, 8/29/26

With the last month of the regular season right around the corner, the Los Angeles Dodgers will continue their three-game series with the Detroit Tigers on Saturday afternoon at Comerica Park.

The Dodgers (81–54, 1st NL West) took Friday’s opener, 2–1, and remain firmly in the driver’s seat in the National League West. The Tigers (62–72, 4th AL Central) continue to plummet and sit a distant 5.5 games out of an American League Wild Card spot.

Looking at the pitching probables, we’ve got LA southpaw Blake Snell (2–1, 2.57 ERA) taking on Detroit right-hander Keider Montero (9–8, 3.30 ERA).

First pitch is at 1:10 p.m. ET. The Dodgers enter as 1.5-run road favorites with -181 moneyline odds on DraftKings Sportsbook. The Tigers are +149 underdogs, with the game total set at O/U 7.5 runs.

Dodgers vs. Tigers Preview

Los Angeles Dodgers

Their record may not show it, but the Dodgers have had a pretty mediocre second half. They’re just 20–18 since the All-Star break and are coming off a recent sweep at the hands of the National League East-leading Braves.

Shohei Ohtani has remained formidable, of course, but he’s slowly falling behind the speedy Pete Crow-Armstrong in the MVP race. Albeit due to some poor batted-ball luck, LA’s offense as a whole ranks 18th in wRC+ and 19th in wOBA since the break.

The pitching hasn’t been great either — particularly the bullpen, which has been saddled with a bottom-10 ERA during this stretch. However, the club has received a much-needed jolt in the form of a returning Blake Snell. Since coming back from the injured list, the star southpaw has posted a microscopic 1.00 ERA with 21 strikeouts across three starts (18 IP). Each of those outings resulted in a Dodgers win.

Detroit Tigers

The Tigers are likely staring down the barrel of their first missed postseason since 2023. They’ve gone 18–20 since the All-Star break, sit 5.5 games back in the Wild Card, and waved the metaphorical white flag by trading superstar ace Tarik Skubal to the defending champs.

Two weeks ago, Detroit actually found itself in sole possession of the third AL Wild Card spot. Then the team dropped 11 of its next 13 games, a catastrophic stretch punctuated by Friday’s loss to LA. Since August 14, the Tigers rank 28th in wRC+ and wOBA, along with 22nd in ERA.

The club is banking on another strong effort from Keider Montero. The young right-hander has helped brace the Tigers’ rotation after the trade deadline, entering Saturday with an impressive 3.30 ERA (3.49 xERA) across 27 outings (133.2 IP) in 2026. Montero ranks in the top 97 percent of MLB hurlers in pitching and fastball run value.

Dodgers vs. Tigers Pick, Best Bet

Friday’s series opener between the Dodgers and the Tigers served as a testament to where these offenses find themselves at this point in the season. Los Angeles has struggled to recapture its juggernaut form since the All-Star break, and Detroit has seemingly forgotten how to hit a baseball for about two weeks. With a pair of uber-reliable starters on the bump, another low-scoring affair should be on deck for Saturday afternoon.

Best Bet: Under 7.5 Runs (-110)
