Royals vs. Blue Jays NRFI (-120)
Randy Dobnak might be the most underrated arm in baseball at the moment. Since joining the Royals midseason, he’s been nothing short of unhittable. Through 45.2 innings (seven starts), the veteran has delivered a 1.58 ERA. Granted, his 1.40 WHIP and 3.70 FIP suggest negative regression down the road. Still, the pitching production has been much needed for Kansas City. Dobnak will look to keep the good times rolling tonight when he takes on baseball’s lowest scoring offense. The Blue Jays are a mess at the plate, ranking near the bottom in most major hitting categories. To boot, Toronto ranks last in the majors with a 22.56% YRFI rate.
Spencer Miles will act as an opener tonight for the Jays. It’s been a terrific season out of the ‘pen for the right-hander. Over 80.1 innings pitched, he’s delivered a 3.02 ERA and 1.10 WHIP. Even more impressive, the 26-year-old has recorded a 1.74 ERA during the month of August. Miles has made four starts this season, preventing a first inning score in each instance. On Wednesday, he’ll take on a light hitting Royals lineup. Kansas City is averaging an MLB-worst 3.60 runs per game on the road. There’s no reason to expect an offensive outburst from the visitors this evening.
Orioles vs. Cardinals NRFI (-125)
Baltimore, still fighting for a playoff spot, will turn to staff ace Kyle Bradish on Wednesday. Through 138.2 innings (25 starts), he’s accounted for a 3.70 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 129 strikeouts (8.4 K/9). The righty can be considered one of the league’s preeminent first inning pitchers. He enters today’s contest on an impressive 11-game NRFI streak. The Cardinals wield a decent lineup, including slugger Jordan Walker, but tonight’s game could prove difficult. St. Louis has posted a National League-worst .661 OPS at home against right-handed pitching.
The Cardinals will hand the ball to Kyle Leahy this evening. Over 126.1 innings (25 starts), he’s produced a 3.13 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 115 strikeouts (8.2 K/9). The 29-year-old has allowed just one run during his previous 14.0 innings on the mound. He’s also performed even better at home (2.91 ERA). Now, Leahy will face a decent but unspectacular Orioles lineup. For the sake of this bet, the O’s are an ideal opponent. Baltimore has put up a 25.00% YRFI rate, fifth-worst in the big leagues. Keeping that in mind, both of these arms should find some early success tonight at Busch Stadium.
