Miami Marlins vs. Boston Red Sox prediction, pick for MLB on Wednesday 8/26/26

Chicago enters Chase Field at 75-56 after Sunday’s extraordinary 19-2 victory in Seattle. The Cubs collected 17 hits, four homers, two grand slams, and nine eighth-inning runs. That victory ended a three-game losing streak and completed a 4-6 stretch. Chicago still scored 50 runs during those 10 games, reflecting considerable offensive volatility. Arizona stands 69-62 after completing its 39th comeback victory Sunday. The Diamondbacks are 5-5 across 10 games, with 50 runs scored and 54 allowed. Arizona remains involved in a crowded National League wild-card race. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for today’s baseball game between the Miami Marlins and the Boston Red Sox.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Marlins vs. Red Sox prediction, preview

Sonny Gray owns a 16-3 record, 2.79 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 123 strikeouts through 138 2/3 innings. His last five starts produced a 2.81 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 30-to-eight strikeout-to-walk ratio across 32 innings. Gray completed at least six innings every time, protecting Boston’s bullpen from unnecessary middle-relief exposure. San Francisco reached him for four runs and two homers Friday, snapping his 19-inning stretch without allowing an earned run. Ryan Gusto has delivered a 2.41 ERA and 1.13 WHIP across four August starts. However, he averaged only 14 outs and 75 pitches, completing five innings once. That workload difference should become increasingly important after the fourth inning.

Gusto’s 4.28 expected ERA sits close to his 4.37 actual mark, despite August’s stronger results. His 20% strikeout rate, 5.9% walk rate and 14.1% K-BB rate describe solid command without overpowering finish. Opponents have generated a 43.9% hard-hit rate, 90 mph average exit velocity and 8.6% barrel rate. His four-seamer carries a 52.3% hard-hit rate and .471 expected slugging percentage. Willson Contreras owns a .285/.396/.541 slash, 26 homers, 14% barrel rate and .505 expected slugging percentage. Wilyer Abreu adds a .489 xSLG, 12.8% barrel rate and 44.6% hard-hit rate. Both hitters can damage Gusto’s primary fastball before Miami reaches its bullpen.

Miami’s counterpunch comes through dangerous contact quality surrounding two high-contact table setters. Otto Lopez owns a .306/.342/.444 slash with 46 extra-base hits, 27 steals and only a 12.4% strikeout rate. Xavier Edwards carries a .365 on-base percentage with 19 steals, giving Miami traffic ahead of its power. Heriberto Hernández has 20 homers, a 49.6% hard-hit rate, 13.4% barrel rate and .480 xSLG. Kyle Stowers returned Monday carrying a 55% hard-hit rate, 11.4% barrel rate and .436 xSLG. Those bats can punish Gray’s weaker offerings. His cutter and four-seamer have each allowed a .368 expected wOBA, while his curveball sits at .343.

Red Sox vs. Marlins pick, best bet

Gray can control that risk by leaning upon his two best weapons. His sweeper has generated a 38.5% whiff rate, .128 average, .192 xwOBA and seven runs above average. The sinker has held hitters to a .210 average, .290 slugging percentage and .256 xwOBA. Miami’s lineup owns considerable raw power, but it also carries several prominent swing-and-miss pockets. Hernández has struck out 101 times across 363 plate appearances, while Stowers owns a 31.4% strikeout rate. Gray’s length leads into a Boston bullpen with a 3.15 ERA. Miami’s relief group carries a 4.03 ERA and used seven pitchers Tuesday. Closer Pete Fairbanks owns a 5.80 ERA, while Boston’s Aroldis Chapman sits at 1.90.

Boston’s −129 moneyline requires a 56.3% break-even rate inside a park suppressing runs and homers. LoanDepot carries a 0.94 run factor and 0.90 homer factor, while the closed roof neutralizes Miami’s weather. That environment strengthens the team with superior starting length, defense and late-inning run prevention. Miami’s 41-27 home record and Gusto’s improved August command deserve respect. Neither outweighs Boston’s advantages across the final five innings. The run line introduces needless risk because the park and Miami’s contact bats can keep the margin narrow. Boston’s moneyline remains playable through -140, with Gray and the bullpen offering the cleanest winning structure.

Best bet: Red Sox ML -130

Projected score: Red Sox 5, Marlins 3

Best bet: Red Sox ML (-130) at Marlins
