Athletics vs. Minnesota Twins prediction, pick for MLB on Wednesday 8/26/26

Minnesota reaches Wednesday’s rubber match at 64-69 overall and a revealing 29-38 away from Target Field. The Athletics sit 52-81, although both clubs share identical 4-6 records across their last 10 games. The A’s have scored 43 runs while batting .263 during that window, showing more life than its season record suggests. Minnesota owns a comparable .251 recent average but managed four hits and struck out 12 times Tuesday. Byron Buxton’s hip injury further clouds a lineup already missing considerable thump and swing-speed authority. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for today’s baseball game between the Athletics and the Minnesota Twins.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Athletics vs. Twins prediction, preview

Connor Prielipp’s 5.57 ERA includes a 24.8% strikeout rate, yet his recent shape has deteriorated dramatically. He surrendered 14 earned runs and 16 hits across 11 innings during his last two starts. Prielipp’s seven-start sample carries a 6.16 ERA, 15 walks and 46 strikeouts through 38 innings. His 4.29 xERA and .319 xwOBA suggest modest correction, but neither metric makes his current fastball playable. Opponents own a .566 slugging percentage against the four-seamer, which produces only a 15.3% whiff rate. That pitch also carries a 49.2% hard-hit rate, making Sacramento’s conditions an especially uncomfortable fit.

J.T. Ginn brings the steadier contact-management profile despite posting a 5.02 ERA across his last seven starts. That stretch included 36 strikeouts, 14 walks and 33 hits over 37 2/3 innings. More recently, Ginn has delivered a 3.38 ERA across five appearances while rebuilding his workload following a finger blister. His 3.60 ERA sits beneath a 4.03 xERA, but the underlying contact quality remains legitimate. Ginn owns a 35.3% hard-hit rate, 5.3% barrel rate and 45.3% ground-ball rate. His changeup has generated a .231 xwOBA and 35.2% whiff rate, while his slider owns a 33.5% whiff rate.

Minnesota’s clearest route against Ginn involves hunting his cutter, which carries an ugly .433 xwOBA and .585 expected slugging percentage. Luke Keaschall has supplied recent stability, collecting 15 hits across his last 37 at-bats. However, Tuesday exposed how thin this offense becomes when Buxton cannot provide middle-order damage. The Twins rank ninth with 611 runs, but their .245 average and .405 slugging percentage remain merely above average. Ginn’s ground-ball lean can neutralize Minnesota’s pull power and force three-hit innings instead of quick crooked numbers. His 9.9% walk rate creates traffic, though Minnesota must first stop expanding beneath his changeup.

Twins vs. Athletics pick, best bet

The Athletics’ offense lacks Shea Langeliers, but its healthier bats have produced 43 runs during their last 10 games. Carlos Cortes homered Tuesday, while Lawrence Butler and Tommy White supplied additional run-producing contact. Prielipp dominated this matchup last month, allowing one run across 5 2/3 innings, but his arsenal has unraveled since then. His sinker allows a .350 average and .450 slugging percentage, creating another vulnerable hard-contact lane. The curveball remains excellent, producing a .190 xwOBA and 38.3% whiff rate. The A’s can win this matchup by forcing Prielipp upward, where his fastball has repeatedly leaked damage.

Both bullpens create volatility, but Minnesota’s relief trend looks particularly alarming entering the finale. Its bullpen owns a 4.84 season ERA and an 11.45 ERA across the past seven days. The A’s ranks last with a 5.67 season mark, although its relievers have posted a better 4.91 ERA recently. Sutter Health Park increases run scoring roughly 9%, and first pitch should bring 96-degree temperatures. A five-mph breeze toward left-center adds further carry, especially against Prielipp’s vulnerable heaters. Still, 10.5 already taxes the weather and bullpen risk, making the A’s +126 moneyline the cleaner position. That price requires only a 44.2% win rate despite the A’s holding the stronger starter and better current offensive shape.

Best bet: Athletics ML (+126)

Projected score: Athletics 6, Twins 5

Best bet: Athletics (+125) vs. Twins
