It has been nothing but misery for the New York Jets since making back-to-back AFC Championship Games in 2010 and 2011. Gang Green has now gone a decade and a half without making the postseason. Last season was a real rock bottom for the Jets, trading away defensive stars Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams en route to three wins. Can Aaron Glenn turn it around, or will the downward spiral continue?

This is a big season for Aaron Glenn and the Jets. With the 2027 NFL Draft class expected to be an elite one for quarterbacks, the Jets are more likely than not going to be trying to get their quarterback of the next year. It could be another top-five pick for a quarterback like Dante Moore or Arch Manning. If that’s the case, Aaron Glenn would likely be out of a job, and the Jets would want to bring in a new coach to pair with that quarterback. However, Glenn will want to do a good job and prove that he should be the coach to lead this new era of the Jets.
As far as this season, the Jets should be better than last season on paper. While Cleveland also has a good argument, the Jets likely had the worst quarterback play in the NFL last season. They brought in former Jet Geno Smith as a veteran option to take over that QB1 role. While it is just a stopgap, Smith should provide some stability at the position. While the Jets traded their young stars on defense, they kept Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall to lead the offense. They also added Omar Cooper Jr. and Kenyon Sadiq in this year’s draft. If Smith can provide some solid quarterback play, the Jets’ offense could be at least a league-average unit.
The defense has been the more solid unit for the Jets over this past decade of struggles. However, after the departure of Quinnen Williams, Sauce Gardner and Jermaine Johnson II, there are a lot of question marks on that side of the ball. The Jets tried to shore up some holes by drafting D’Angelo Ponds and David Bailey, as well as acquiring T’Vondre Sweat, Minkah Fitzpatrick and Demario Davis.

My best bet is for the Jets to go over their win total and secure at least six victories. While the Jets lost some big pieces on defense, they brought in some fresh young talent and some veterans to fill in some of those gaps. While the defense won’t be elite by any means, they should be a solid enough unit to be competitive.
Offensively, the Jets should be decently improved from last season. The Jets hired a veteran offensive coordinator in former Colts head coach Frank Reich. They also brought in a veteran quarterback in Geno Smith. Those two should provide some real stability to that side of the ball. The Jets do have a solid group of weapons to work with. If Smith can bounce back from his poor 2025/26 season, this could be a fun offense to watch. Not to mention, the Jets have two young offensive tackles, Armand Membou and Olu Fashanu, who have both shown a lot of promise.
The Jets started last season 0-7, but five of those losses came by one score. A veteran quarterback and a coaching staff with more experience could have flipped a couple of those results. By that point, the Jets’ season was already over, and the horrific quarterback play doomed the rest of the season. If the Jets can have their key pieces stay healthy, this is a team that could win seven or eight games against a fourth-place schedule.
