Gavin Williams, Cleveland Guardians at Los Angeles Angels ($10,500) — I do like Jacob deGrom as well, so if I need $1,000, then I will likely go down there. That said, the matchup can be tricky because the White Sox do have tons of power. The Angels? Second in strikeouts, 28th in ISO and 28th in wRC+. Williams should carve this lineup up. Through 154.2 innings, Williams has a 3.58 FIP with a 24.6 K-BB%. He has allowed 25 home runs, though, and the barrel rate is 11.7%. I’m not too worried. Over his last six starts, Williams has put up over 30 FPTS four times.

Aaron Nola, Philadelphia Phillies at Seattle Mariners ($6,700) — The season-long numbers don’t look great, as the FIP is 4.92 and he’s served up 31 home runs in 137 innings. Nola has allowed at least one home run in eight straight games, with three of those with two and one with a whopping three homers allowed. The strikeout rate is still a respectable 24.6%, though, and the five most recent starts have been pretty, pretty good. He’s allowed a total of eight earned runs – three of those with only one earned run. That translated to at least 12 FPTS in all five contests with 26.4 and 30.8 FPTS in the two most recent outings. Now he gets a Mariners team in Seattle that is seventh in strikeouts, 24th in ISO and 16th in wRC+.

Jake Burger, Texas Rangers at Chicago White Sox ($4,000) — Burger has an 89.9 mph average exit velocity with a 10.7% barrel rate and 75.7 mph bat speed. Against left-handed pitching, he’s slashing .264/.331/.500 with a .236 ISO and 131 wRC+. Anthony Kay has struggled against righties, allowing 14 home runs and a .280/.370/.466 slash. The FIP is 5.51 with a 6.1 K-BB%.

Tim Tawa, Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Chicago Cubs ($2,900) — Normally, I search for possible exploitable pitching matchups. This is not one of those times, as Clay Holmes has been solid with a 3.43 FIP and only four home runs allowed in 68.2 innings. The launch angle is only 3.8 degrees while the barrel rate is 4.9%. That said, the average exit velocity is 89.5 mph while the K-BB% is only 9.7%. Tawa has reverse splits, as he’s been much better against right-handed pitching. The wRC+ is 107 with a .195 ISO. The slash is .260/.310/.455. Tawa has produced fantasy goodies in nine straight with four of those in double-digits. He’s relatively cheap as well.
OUTFIELD

Yordan Alvarez, Houston Astros at New York Yankees ($6,700) — Will Warren has a 4.77 FIP and 10.1 K-BB% against lefties this season. 11 of the 19 home runs allowed have come off a lefty. Now he has to face one of the best lefties in all of baseball with the short porch in right field. Alvarez is putting up video game numbers with a .320/.436/.613 slash, 16.1% walk rate, 17% strikeout rate and .294 ISO. Through 566 plate appearances, he’s racked up 36 home runs, 86 runs, 90 RBI and a stolen base. The average exit velocity is 94.5 mph, the launch angle is 19.4 degrees, barrel rate is 17.3% and the bat speed is 76.1 mph. 27 of the 36 home runs have come off a righty and the wRC+ is 206 with a .319 ISO. Kyle Isbel, Kansas City Royals at Toronto Blue Jays ($2,700) — Isbel hits ninth in the order and nothing stands out. The strikeout rate is 21.8%, walk rate is only 5%, ISO is .130 and batting average is .241. The average exit velocity is 89 mph but the barrel rate is only 3.5%. He has six home runs, 25 runs, 23 RBI and six stolen bases in 239 plate appearances. Over the last three games, though, Isbel put up 21, 14 and 21 FPTS. Now he faces Max Scherzer, who has allowed a .295/.385/.527 slash, 7.31 FIP and -1.5 K-BB% against lefties.
